Deputy Education Minister Wee Ka Siong has denied any links with the embattled Port Klang Free Zone project, as alleged in several Internet articles.

wee ka siong pc at moe putrajaya 241209 At a press conference in Putrajaya today, Wee admitted that he was a former shareholder of consultancy firm Hijau Sekitar Sdn Bhd, but denied that the firm had worked on PKFZ.

Instead, he claimed Hijau Sekitar, along with four other firms, had been engaged by Wijaya Baru Sdn Bhd to produce a feasibility study of port expansions in Klang.

"We are talking about North Port and West Port demands. Do not drag in PKFZ. This is about the ports in Klang (and) nothing to do with land," he said.

He hinted that his political enemies were trying to link him with the PKFZ scandal and urged the anonymous accusers to come forward.

He then challenged the Transport Ministry to publicise the contents of the report submitted by Hijau Sekitar in 2006.

Wee divested shares

Wee was said to have been probed by the authorities over his links with PKFZ, in a series of articles on anti-government news website Malaysia Today .

The website disclosed Wee's interest in Hijau Sekitar and other documents which showed the company's engagements with Wijaya Baru.

tiong king sing 061009 Wijaya Baru is the subject of controversy because it is controlled by tycoon and Bintulu MP Tiong King Sing, who also controls PKFZ turnkey contractor Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd.

Thus far, two Kuala Dimensi staff have been charged in court for alleged wrongdoings over the PKFZ scandal.

During the press conference today, Wee clarified that he had divested his 48 percent stake in Hijau Sekitar before his swearing-in as deputy education minister after the March 8, 2008 general election, as required by law.

He said he was a victim of character assassination and mud-slinging.

Though he did not name anyone, it was obvious he was referring to Transport Minister Ong Tee Keat. Wee, who is MCA Youth chief, and Ong are on opposing camps in MCA.

Wee denies Ong's claims

Concerning MCA, Wee also denied that he had a hand in the complaints against deputy party president Dr Chua Soi Lek's sex DVD scandal.

"I urge my media friends to ask the complainant (Eng Cheng Guan ). I'm sure as a (MCA) division chief, he is not illiterate and needs help writing a letter," said Wee.

No action was taken against Chua until Ong took helm of the party in October 2008.

A subsequent decision to suspend Chua for four years was later overturned during an emergency general meeting (EGM) and he was reinstated as deputy president.
