'Stop blaming them and the rest for being subservient to the government. It is our fault that this has happened because we allowed it by voting BN into power every election since independence.'
Next GE: 'Let police stand as candidates'
Mythots: Stop blaming the civil service, the police, the MACC, the judiciary and the rest for being subservient to the government. It is our fault that this has happened because we allowed it by voting BN into power every election since independence.
We all agree that they - meaning the public services - are there to serve the BN government and not the people of Malaysia. For this, we have to thank Dr Mahathir Mohamad who set the process in motion some 30 years ago.
Today, we see so clearly that the rot has set in. With the removal of the "independence" in our judiciary, the rot started and it spread to all areas of the civil service, the police, etc. Once again, stop blaming the BN. It is us the people, especially those eligible to vote, who put them in power in the first place.
So stop crying foul and start doing something about it. We can start with registering every Malaysian who is eligible to vote and convincing them of the need for ‘change' in our present system.
Abil: The crime rate is soaring with daily incidences of robbery and snatch thefts with the police the least interested in safeguarding the safety of the public.
They are only concerned about opposition politicians who now it seems can't even give an opinion. If police are so good in acting like politicians, it is only fair they resign and stand for elections and lead us, rather than making unnecessary noise.
Fiction: Stand for elections? But BN will win again - they don't need the police. As for some of the jokers that Pakatan Rakyat will put up, I recommend they use ducks instead as then they will be sitting ducks. Jealousy will get you all nowhere. Guess all of you will live your lives under BN rule.
Jimmy Ng: The police always seem to be doing the bidding of their political masters. They have no idea of what is the meaning of the word ‘intergrity'. They remain the laughing stock of the whole world and remain the butt of many jokes, both locally and overseas.
They do not know what to focus on in terms of priority and when they are criticised, they react in a most strange manner - they appeal for cooperation, patience and understanding from the public!
How can the public remain patient when after so many years, there is not even the slightest improvement in terms of performance, attitudes and a reduction is crime rates? They are, after all, public servants. Therefore, they should be accountable to the rakyat.
Yet they conveniently choose to forget such simple truths. Maybe perhaps it is due to the fact that it proves to be far too inconvenient for them to remember, and it does not serve their own selfish interests. So where is the professionalism?
Cala: Putting Pakatan into Putrajaya alone will not solve the people's cry for good governance practices. What is at stake is the accountability of our police force to the people.
The ‘master' - the people themselves - must decide just what kind of a government they long for. Are not our police ‘your most obedient servant'? When do they have become the executive's tool?
Therefore, one way out of this trouble is to ‘subject' every state chief police officer and above to a process of evaluation by a parliamentary select committee before confirmation for their respective posts.
John: Can we get the chief executive officer of the Performance Management and Delivery Unit (Pemandu) Idris Jala to do a ‘key performance indicator' on the police force? This will ensure the police are doing what they are being paid to do.
Someone will have to oversee what Idris is doing too. But do not rely on Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Koh Tsu Koon, who is responsible for performance management, for he is such a great liar.
DontPlayGod: The police are badly understaffed but they can put thousands of uniformed and non-uniformed police personnel on active duty during a by-election. They can even send dozens of armed police personnel to arrest an opposition member.
Yet they can't send police personnel to patrol crime hotspots, especially in crime-prone areas in the cities. It all goes to show the non-professionalism of our PDRM and proves that PDRM - together with the MACC and judiciary - are the tools of Umno.
