'If at all Najib is wondering why, despite all his efforts, he is still lagging behind, he simply needs to look at the actions of PDRM. People can see through the blatant abuse of authority.'
Police disrupt S'gor gov't Thaipusam function
Lvbala: After so many years, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is coming to Batu Caves, thinking that the only way to curry favour with the Tamils is by attending this occasion. But when the Federal Reserve Unit shot tear gas canisters into the temple compounds on Nov 25, 2007 was the day Barisan Nasional trashed themselves.
Habib Rak: The Royal Malaysian Police Force (PDRM) is really doing a good job in sabotaging Najib's efforts to gain the people's trust. If at all Najib is wondering why, despite all his efforts, he is still lagging behind, he simply needs to look at the actions of PDRM. People can see through the blatant abuse of authority.
Bapak Toyol: If Umno was the one that had put up the stage, would the men in blue be so brave to demolish it? This incident and many other events organised by the opposition is a clear demonstration that the men in blue are nothing but Umno stooges.
Teh: Najib is afraid that the crowd will be bigger on the Pakatan Rakyat side than on his side. So he uses the typical Umno way - by force (in this case, the police force). He doesn't want to see Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim handing out RM1 million to Tamil schools and Hindu temples while he can only hand out empty slogans.
Disgusted: It is no secret that the Batu Caves Temple committee are beholden to S Samy Vellu, MIC and BN. Don't you remember what happened in November 2007 when they locked in the Hindraf people then seeking refuge in the temple from police, who subsequently gassed and drenched them with chemical-laced water?
All Indians who support Pakatan should boycott Batu Caves this Thaipusam and find alternative temples to worship at. Let it be a BN temple. Be patient. After general election number 13, it will be a place for all, God willing.
Tony: The police have proven once again that they are the stooges of Umno. It's amazing how low they are prepared to sink (for their masters).
Doc: Thaipusam, if I remember correctly, is it supposed to be a religious Hindu festival involving kavadies, prayer, fasting and sacrifice for the deities. Currently it is looking more like a political platform for political parties and their leaders to win the all-so-crucial Indian votes.
Chan: Though I don't like the idea of 'make way for PM', I do, however, dislike the idea of having pop stars and loud sound system at religious events. Devotees ended partying instead of paying devotion to the Lord/God.
Ko Pi Ior: The power of the incumbent is real and invincible; after all you have all the machineries at your disposal to abuse.
Brothers, friend claim trial to firebombing church
Nil: Should not such a serious case as this be handled by the chief public prosecution officer? This would have come under the Internal Security Act for instigating what could have been a civil racial and religious war.
Dominic Chan wen Shun: Why were the three defendants not represented? Did the judge ask for their representation? Even though the three defendants are suspected of doing something very wrong that threatens national security, they still need due process and legal representation. This is unconstitutional.
Cops quiz MP over 'seditious' remarks
Booblue: Why there is no investigation on the person who shouted at the Shah Alam mosque protest about burning churches ?
Bapak Toyol: Would the men in blue investigate if an Umno parliamentarian had said the arsons and vandalisms were the work of DAP, PAS, or other opposition party?
Baiyuensheng: M Manogaran only talked about who he suspected were the arsonists, and he is charged under the Sedition Act. The suspected arsonists, however, are slapped with a mere ‘mischief' charge under the Penal Code.
Authorities seize books published by Malaysiakini
Confused: What a great day for Malaysiakini . Everyone knows that when you ban something, you dramatically increase its sales! I had not heard of either of these books, but will now order copies online - no need to try to find a bookstore that the police haven't raided.
Americk Sidhu: I wish to extend my gratitude to the Royal Malaysian Police and the Home Ministry for alerting me to the availability of these two books which I had not come across previously.
I am now a proud registered member of Kinibooks and am fully conversant with the mechanics of ordering these books online. It's really quite easy. Everyone should try, especially if you have a Maybank account. Electronic direct debit. No necessity of fighting traffic to get to your local bookshop. Pos Malaysia will deliver to your doorstep.
Congratulations Malaysiakini . Your sales are now going to sky rocket, thanks to the 'authorities'. I can just make out the sound of champagne corks popping amidst all the head scratching going on.
Lim Chong Leong: Zunar's cartoons are available on the Malaysiakini site. There is nothing there that can be a threat to national security, public order or morality. The Home Ministry is just too much in denial and are too ashamed of the truth. Well, the truth hurts and it is hurting Najib and his cousin (Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein) too much.
Gk: The introduction paragraph for the book 'Where is Justice? Death and Brutality in Custody' which read "Between 2003 and 2007, 1,535 people died while in the custody and protection of the Malaysian government" makes me want to read further. I am going to get one soon.
Tan Kian Khim: Clearly, the illustrious police and home minister are of the opinion that the vicious armed robbers, snatch thieves, rapists and the myriad criminals out there constitute much less of a public security threat than two books.
Congratulations to the PDRM and Home Ministry on once again demonstrating their utterly irredeemable incompetence.
