'AG, ignorance of the law is no excuse'

vox populi big thumbnail 'Can we call the AG nasty names and accuse him of hideous crimes and then plead ignorance and say "no offense intended"?'

Kit Siang: AG should be censured over Al-Islam decision

Justgreat: If malice was not intended, why were the two in the church at that time? If malice was not intended, they could always have left during communion and not partake in it, only to desecrate the holy communion wafer? If malice was not intended, what was intended then? So can we plead ignorance later if we murder someone?

What a stupid reason from someone who is supposed to be learned in law. It is more like sedition to me, failing to act against perpetrators of a crime against the Christians. Why have Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein been so quiet over this matters. As if torching churches are not enough, now some are resorting to acts of desecration in churches.

I hope that this shows Malaysians of other faiths that the Umno/BN government is not sincere in promoting religious or racial unity but undermining them. What will happen to the cases of the arsonists who torched the churches? Will be another ‘No Further Action' case? I hope not for the people's sake.

Abd Samad: Now anyone can go into a place of worship and do whatever and later can say I don't know what I did, so there is no need charge me. What 1Malaysia.

Black Mamba: The country law give the archbishop every right to take legal action against the two journalists. Why wait? The Catholics are too magnanimous. An apology will suffice but are the wrongdoers remorseful?

Singa Pura Pura: Even experienced politicians are falling into the Umno trap. There is 'method' in their apparent injustice. "Springes to catch woodcocks," old Polonius would say. It is all designed to widen the rift between the Muslims and the non-Muslims. To make the Muslims feel threatened by the opposition's expected response to Umno's ‘championing' of the Islamic cause.

The harder the DAP ‘hentam', the more the Malays that drop into the Umno net. Only the Muslim vote can return Umno to its feudal throne. Umno knows that.

And that is why there is today this overwhelming but artificial atmosphere of fear, bewilderment and besiegement amongst Muslims and Malays, when in actual fact they would have much less to fear under Pakatan Rakyat than they would have under Umno. But who is to say.

Paul Warren: Get real. these guys are making decisions to show themselves to be the true defenders of the faith. Anything that might show the defenders to have fallen on account of an underhanded act should be defended and these fallen should be propped up.

To charge them for an act done in the course of defending the faith should be applauded not censured. Hey, even the worse of the crusaders were hailed as heroes when they got home... and those times have not changed really.

Y Omarmohdnoh: As a Muslim,I would like to see the two journalists charged in court. Why? They finally found that all the allegations (apostasy) were untrue. Instead of going back to their informants, knowingly they had been made bloody fools, they committed foolish acts and published photographs of their undoing.

So I hope the AG could view the issue from this angle and proceed wisely.

Arul Inthirarajah: Is this not the same attorney-general that allegedly attempted to fabricate evidence for the ‘Sodomy 1' trial in 1998? We should not then be surprised by the lack of ethics or disrespect for the rule of law by this individual who should have been sacked.

Lin Wen Quan: "Ignorantia Juris Non Excusat" (Ignorance of the law is no excuse.) The Catholic Church has been offended by the journalists out to create mischief in a place of worship. Yes, it is futile to demonstrate because these imbeciles are being protect by Umno likewise the AG. Whatever despicable acts against other races or religions sanctioned by Umno will have a ready defence legal team in the AG's office.

Gibran: The AG is just another stooge of the ruling Umno. No way can the journalist plead ignorance because before the holy communion can be taken, the coordinator for the days service will announce that communion can only be taken by practicing Catholics.

Practicing Catholics are those who attend service regularly and who do their confessions regularly. The behaviour of the two said journalist was blasphemy. There appears to be a conspiracy between the AG and the journalists.

Geronimo: Maybe this should come as a shocker to Umno, AG, Utusan Malaysia and the two reporters. By partaking in the communion and having the host in your mouth, the two reporters are now considered 50 percent Catholics. All they need to do is finalise it with baptism. May God have mercy on their souls.

Pro-Truth & Justice: Can we call the AG nasty names and accuse him of hideous crimes and then plead ignorance and say "no offense intended"?

PKR: Ringgit and sen caused defections

Kgen: Yes, PKR should have fielded better candidates for the 2008 general elections but before one flails PKR, take into account the condition in 2008. Back then, very few people of calibre wanted to stand under the PKR banner as they felt it was a ‘sure loser'. PKR was almost wiped out in 2004 and they managed only to retain one seat.

They had so few choices so they had to field some low-quality candidates for those seats they did not expect to win. But these candidate instead won because of the political ‘tsunami'. Of course, getting good candidates will not be a problem for the next general elections. The headache then will be selecting from so many good candidates.

Doc: I do agree with PKR spokesperson Latheefa Koya that this string of defections will make PKR and Pakatan Rakyat stronger in the eyes of the voters. With politics, perception is everything. Firstly; PKR have already admitted that they had fielded candidates of poor calibre and hence their members of parliament are leaving after being enticed by cash.

Malaysians are a forgiving lot and PKR will be forgiven for this blunder come the next general elections. PKR's acknowledgment of their weakness and their humility is a plus factor in the eyes of the rakyat. Secondly, it is a well-known fact that Umno is enticing the PKR MPs with cash to defect. Umno is perceived as an evil force.

In the short term, Umno may make some gain for whatever diabolical scheme they have with these ex-PKR MPs but in the long run, it will further batter the party's image. As for the the PKR ‘frogs', I'm sure that they are aware that their political careers are effectively at an end.

TC88: PKR have only themselves to blame. First, it was their choice of candidates who were ex-BN or BN ‘discards' who could not get nominated to stand on a BN ticket. Second, PKR did not take firm and positive action against their errant MPs and state assemblypersons

Thirdly, instead of running their state governments better and putting BN to shame, they chose to find faults with the previous administrations. Fourthly, where is the coordinated action plan or policy of Pakatan in the five (now four) states they control? Pakatan in general, and PKR in particular, have let the voters down... very badly and irresponsibly.

We gave you five state governments. Govern them well and prove to BN and to the people that you are effective, transparent, fair, and open. I have my doubts whether Pakatan can govern well or if they are just another re-hash of BN representatives interested in enriching themselves with contracts, goodies and carrying the prestigious ‘YB' title.

PKR's Kamarul sees silver lining

Ong: ‘It's just that Wee finds it difficult to fit into the hierarchy of the party (PKR)...' according to PKR's Kamarul Bahrin Abas. I would go further and say that Wee cannot fit into the hierarchy of any party other than his own party - the Malaysian Democratic Party (MDP) - where he is the head honcho.

His problem was that when he stood for election under the MDP banner, his only achievement was to contribute to the nation's coffers by losing his deposit for not being able to even garner one-eighth of the votes cast.

Amazingly this Wee character continues to believe that he is God's gift to the Malaysian electorate and that his success previously as a DAP candidate and currently as a PKR candidate was all due to his personal popularity.

Abdul Rahman Lim: I salute you Kamarul for your steadfast commitment and leadership that is hard to come by among the Pakatan comrades. It's true that not everyone can be satisfied all the time but the moral of the struggle is loyalty and believing in what you fight for.

Only the very weak are easily swayed by corrupt means and only this category should be discarded for good. We shall pray to the Almighty that you and the other very capable die-hard Pakatan lawmakers fight hard and take lead of the government after the next general election.

But Zul, non-Muslims too voted for you...

Chandrasekar Krishnasamy: Zul should learn to respect his voters who are Malaysians of different races. He won on a PKR ticket and it is a multiracial party. He knows the party's aim and objectives and if he can't subscribe to them, then he should leave or be discarded by the party. His ‘little pharoahs' is a different issue.

Justgreat: It is apparent that Zul does not give two hoots about his constituents who are made up of Malays, Chinese, Indians and others. I would brand him as a racist as well. Is not PKR set up based on multiracial principles? Why keep a racist like him? He belongs with his own in Umno and BN. He wants PKR to sack him so that he can use the move to blow the matter sky-high and show everyone he is a champion of some sort - all for his own ego and agenda.

We do not need someone like him. It is better to get rid of people like him now rather than wait until Pakatan sets foot in Putrajaya. It would be too late then.

I am also impressed with the 'new' PAS which seems to be more tolerant. It will only bring good to Malaysia on the whole. Keep it up PAS. You have my unwavering support. I voted for your candidate in the last general election. And I am a Chinese Malaysian.

Mythots: Let it be known loud and clear that the behaviour of Zulkifli Noordin should not and must not be tolerated. Pakatan Rakyat stands for all Malaysians and not for any particular group. All Pakatan Rakyat MPs and state reps whose language still reeks of racism should be dropped immediately.

I have no problem with these people leaving and I believe it is the same with the many true Malaysians who abhor anyone using the race and religion card.
