'The Human Rights Party can only be a spoiler for Pakatan as they cannot hope to win this seat. If Pakatan loses in a tight contest, HRP will be condemned by all.'
Odds in favour of BN in Hulu Selangor
Truth Seeker: This is an acid test for Pakatan. Go to the ground and tell the people why the people shouldn't support the people who called them ‘beggars from India'. Pakatan should let the Indians know in what terms they're better than BN. They must tell the people that the MIC is just a coolie for BN and nothing else.
The Human Rights Party (HRP) might believe that they can swing the Indian vote but this will be the demise of this unregistered party. P Uthayakumar should contest the seat to see if he is still reliable. We challenge Uthayakumar to contest if he is ‘betul-betul anak jantan'!
Kgen: Hulu Selangor is a semi-urban seat so the voters are more informed about current issues rather than just blindly voting for any party. In terms of social justice, BN's record is really bad.
PKR's thin majority in 2008 should not be taken as a yardstick. There were 1,466 spoilt votes. It cannot be that so many voters do not know how to write an ‘X' so it may indicate dissatisfaction with the PKR candidate. With a strong candidate, PKR can retain this seat.
HRP (‘Hindu', not ‘Human' Rights Party?) can only be a spoiler for Pakatan as they cannot hope to win this seat. If Pakatan loses in a tight contest, HRP will be condemned by all races as Umno's stooge and Uthayakumar will be hailed as the backhanded Umno ‘mandore'.
If they lose their deposit, which is quite likely, they will also lose face. So HRP had better think twice before jumping in to contest. The sentiment against HRP is already poor, don't make it worse, Mr Uthaya.
KayKay: If MIC were to stand again, it will be wiped out and it will be a toss between Pakatan Rakyat and the Human Rights Party (HRP). Pakatan is likely to have the edge if HRP cannot secure at least some non-Indian support.
However, if Umno replaces MIC - and this would not be viewed favourably by the latter - Umno would have a good chance of bagging the seat by default if HRP enters the fray at the same time.
HRP can only win if Pakatan gives way and this is unlikely to happen given the fact that Anwar Ibrahim thinks PKR is his family business. Anwar is found to be more and more wanting as a national leader, not only among the Indian community but also in Sabah and Sarawak.
After having accepted the Tambunan Declaration which covers autonomy, Sabah/Sarawak rights, the 20 Points and the Malaysia Agreement, Anwar refused to back the recent briefing by Cigma activists from PKR at the British Parliament in London and even cut off promised financial aid from the party for the trip at the last minute. Luckily, Malaysians in London came through, thanks to Hindraf.
Temenggong: Hulu Selangor is BN territory. MIC's G Palanivel lost the last time due to the Indian swing. I personally know Palanivel had done a good job there over these last two years. Without Hindraf/HRP's formal endorsement of Pakatan, there is no chance Pakatan can win, even if they field Zaid Ibrahim. The ball is in Pakatan's court.
Voter-get-Voters campaign 4 PR: Maybe BN will win this ‘buy'-election and serve us right because most of us have this indifference that one vote less makes no difference to Pakatan. Maybe Pakatan will also lose the next general election if we all have this same attitude - that is unless we all take a stand and go all out for Pakatan via a ‘voter-get-voter' campaign.
A ‘voter-get-voter' campaign is too late for this coming ‘by-election'. However, it is not too late if we start wooing those who are already registered and keep them well-informed. As for the next general elections which can come anytime, I urge all Malaysians to start your own ‘voter-get- voter' campaign - not tomorrow but now.
Loyal Malaysian: So far for the Hulu Selangor seat, it has not been a happy prediction for Pakatan. But that's life. It shall be interesting to see how Pakatan voters respond to all the feel good slogans. Of course, we know the Indian voters are unhappy about the perceived lack of positive reinforcement from the Pakatan state governments. So let the battle begin.
Dr Jacob George: There are far bigger issues at play - MIC's G Palanivel should be given the seat for after all he is the party deputy president and has been working very hard in the area since the last general election. A swing there will be thanks to his work, aided and abetted by crucial grassroots NGO leaders.
AMT: MIC president S Samy Vellu should contest this seat and prove his worth in leading the MIC. Do it, Samy...
Sundarajoo A Periasamy: If Umno doesn't use money as we saw them do for the Bagan Pinang by-election, it is confirmed that Pakatan will take back this seat. I have seen Pakatan doing a lot at this area. Why is it that in the past BN never did anything but now wants to do everything? We can judge who is the best for us.
Smike27: Vote wisely, Indians. Remember Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's former private secretary said all the Indians came as beggars but now BN will come for your vote. Now is the time to tell them back that they are the beggars so don't ever vote for these BN people.
Send them a strong signal - one that all Indians should be given due respect.
