Khalid admitted that today's visit is to break the perception that PAS is extremist and wants to push for an Islamic state.
"I think the best way (to break that perception) is to come here to meet the people and talk with them," said Khalid.
9.45am SUPP candidate Robet Lau Hui Yew ( left ) takes his first jab against his rivaL, DAP's Wong Ho Leng, saying he is not the right person to represent Sibu.
"I think I am a better agent of change, instead of someone who has been promising change for the past 20 over years," he said at a press conference at the SUPP headquarters in Sibu.
9.55am SUPP challenges DAP to put out in detail what they have done to develop education in Sibu.
Sibu Supp publicity secretary Daniel Ngieng said it is only fair for them to list out their tangible contributions.
"They can criticise, but they must also look at their own report card," he said at a press conference at SUPP headquarters.

11.00am: DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang urged Sibu voters to use this by-election to send a message to Putrajaya to form a royal commission of inquiry for shot teen Aminulrasyid Amzah.
(Yesterday, the Ipoh Timor MP had issued a 24-hour-ultimatum to PM Najib Abdul Razak to set up the commission, failing which he would ask Sibu voters to vote for royal commission)
"Until now, there has been no announcement by the government. So we urge the people of Sibu to vote in the interests of their own security."
DAP also announced their election manifesto.
Party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, calling Najib "Santa Claus," urged him to bring eight 'goodies' for the people of Sibu the next time he visits the town:
1) enough funds for the flood problems;
2) improvements to local road conditions;
3) increased allocation for Chinese education to RM5 million for every independent school and RM15 million for primary schools which he had promised earlier;
4) a university for Sibu;
5) free wifi for the whole of Sibu;
6) 'appreciation' payout of RM400 per senior citizen;
7) abolition of the Lanang bridge toll; and
8) RM1 billion allocation for poverty eradication
12-6pm Lim Guan Eng on boat trip to longhouses.
1.40pm: A DAP member, identified only as 'Lee', was called and interviewed by Sibu police this afternoon over an allegedly illegal gathering on Friday, May 7.
The gathering was a "meet the people" function that organised at a local restaurant. The DAP member was accompanied by Kuching MP Chong Chieng Jen, and had his statement recorded for around 40 minutes.

Ministry will set up a cooperative in each district in the state to distribute price-controlled items, says Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob ( below ).
The move was to overcome the shortage of price-controlled items, such as sugar, in the state,

"In Peninsular Malaysia, the target is to set up at least one distributor in each state. However, due to the sheer size of Sarawak, we plan to set up a distributor for each district."
"This goes to show that the Barisan Nasional government cares for the welfare of the people and in safeguarding their rights as consumers."
Thirteen cooperatives had submitted applications to become distributors, including six in Sibu, said Ismail.
