MCA Youth chief Wee Ka Siong today blamed Malay-rights NGO Perkasa for the Chinese community's decision to reject Barisan Nasional during recent by-elections.

Calling the BN leadership to sever ties with Perkasa, he said that an "ambiguous relationship" between the two parties will only incur more wrath from the public.

"If BN fails to make a strong stand in this respect, the public will only continue having the perception that BN is associated with Perkasa, and this will cause a huge damage to the coalition," he said in his latest blog posting.

He also slammed Perkasa's claims that the Chinese community is ungrateful, saying that they only want a fair government that would protect the people's needs without considering race as a factor.

He added that the BN government must practice fairness and justice in order to regain the Chinese votes.

"We cannot win the rakyat's support by giving out large allocations to schools in the eleventh hour at every by-election," he said.

Listen to Chinese grievances

NONE MCA president Chua Soi Lek said the results of the by-election is an eye opener for BN to take stock of its weaknesses and to review its approach towards certain issues and policies.

“The government must listen to the grievances of the Chinese voters in Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia and ask itself whether issues confronting the community has been addressed urgently. We can no longer pretend there are no issues and sweep things under the carpet.”

He said that MCA, like SUPP, which is a Chinese-based party, must also reform itself to remain relevant.
