Authorities play denial game on Penan woes

your say 'When Saiful cried sodomy, the whole BN, the AG, the police, the judiciary immediately swung into action and charged Anwar. Here, more than a dozen helpless Penan girls cried rape, but they just brush aside the report like nothing happened.'

'New evidence' uncovered of Penan rape

Fair player: Sarawak Development Minister James Masing suggested that the Penan are promiscuous at a young age?

Masing, sexual promiscuity isn't only a Penan problem. It is not fair of James Masing to comment that way. Any man/woman with more than one spouse or sexual partner is promiscuous, regardless of whether he/she is Penan, Iban, Chinese, Melanau, Malay, Orang Ulu, Indian, Westerner, etc.

The Penans are simple and gullible Ulu folks and their innocence has been rudely exploited and raped. To think those babies of the rapists are going to grow up as future victims of sexual abuses of future rapists irks me greatly!

And what a great prospect for the rapists who father those poor babies who never asked to be born. Please act and speak fair, all you people with power! Do something right and do something positive.

Don't just play the denial game and act dumb. Instead, wise up and stretch out your helping hands without any political agenda. Just be human and be humane. Let compassion steer your hearts and reasoning. Use your political power for the welfare of the Penan and prove your worth. Now!

Anonymous: This is '1 Funny Malaysia'. When Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan cried sodomy, the whole BN, the attorney-general, the police, the judiciary and other Umno-led NGOs immediately swung into action and charged Anwar Ibrahim.

Here, more than a dozen helpless Penan girls cried rape, but the hypocrites just brush aside the report like nothing happened. Really '1Funny Malaysia' indeed.

Henry Ong: There is no justice for the poor, but huge wealth and power for the politicians. In the end, one will be gloriously be taken to heaven and the other will be condemned to hell.

Loyal Malaysian: I feel disgusted and ashamed reading the report. Knowing how the police often worked hand in gloves with the rich and powerful to intimidate the poor and helpless, I will say that, on the balance the probabilities, the 'new evidence' is credible.

Swipenter: Why isn't there a single word from the home minister and the IGP (inspector-general of police)? You want the people to appreciate you rather than condemning the police force, then starting getting off your butts and do something on the injustices done to the Penan. Don't give excuses like there are not enough witnesses and logistic constraints.

These allegations have been going on for years and it won't go away until justice is done for the raped women, and punishment meted out to the rapists.

Upyes: The logger-rapists are akin to Uruk-hai and Orcs and Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud is Sarawak's own Saruman, who chose early in his career to serve Mahathir Mohamad's Sauron Saga.

The little people must destroy the 1Ring of BN power and liberate Malaysia from these astral parasites and fiscal pirates.

Penan rape survivors recount harrowing ordeal

Disgusted: Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud and his logger tycoon cronies will pay in hell for all that is happening to the poor natives of Sarawak. They may enjoy life here but in eternity they will suffer. You can fool man, but you can't fool God. Perdition awaits them!

Pure Malaysian: They felt they could do nothing because the logging company was "too powerful" and the police would always take their side. This says it all - no wonder there was no action from the authority.

Emergency motion on Penan rapes, native rights

Reformasi: (PKR Wanita chief and Ampang MP) Zuraida Kamaruddin, where were you when HRP (Human Rights Party) protested in Parliament over the denial of scholarships, matriculation and university places for Indian Malaysians?

Why do you never table an emergency motion to fight for Indian rights as per federal constitution Article 8 and 12. You called yourself a reformist but your reformasi is only for certain groups only.

When it comes to Indian issues, your eyes become blind, ears become deaf and your mouth becomes dumb. Is this is called reformation? What is the different between you and BN?

Hopium: The plight of Penan people is not new. The government has been in denial not just now, but for many number of years. These are native people who are illiterates mostly, and have little or no access to authorities that would truly assist them.

They are the natives who lived by the law of nature, who do not reap the nature because of greed, but just to sustain their lives. To compare them to Indians is not really fair.

Indians had the MIC and therefore we should blame MIC, instead of the need to show displeasure with the idea of bringing justice to people of Penan. Indians have Ananda Krishnan, Tony Fernandes and many other leaders, yet not many are willing to help. Did MIC do anything to help the students that deserved the scholarships? Nothing, zilch!

It was again the opposition leaders who discussed the issue with the parents and tried to help the students. No matter what, we Indians will not be any worse if the opposition bring up the Penan's suffering. By good karma, when we ask justice for others, we too will get.
