Muhyiddin, come clean on religious societies 'ban' in schools

vox populi small thumbnail 'Did you order a ban on non-Muslim religious societies in national schools? If yes, please say it loud and clear. If no, punish those school heads and teachers who do so.'

'Stop banning non-Muslim societies in schools'

Anonymous: There is something wrong here. The deputy education minister claimed that the school administration misinterpreted the government circular. Now it seems some schools in Penang also misinterpreted the circular.

I have seen the circular. The contents of the circular is simple, stating that non-Muslim religious societies formed before 2000 need not have to be registered but remain as status quo. Those set up from 2000 onwards need approval by the registrar, which is the state education department director.

Legally per the circular, those societies that have been set up prior to 2000 would remain as it is, not dissolved. Action should be taken on the school administration and Education Department officials if they act like little ‘Napoleon' to dissolve these societies.

Also, such societies should be encouraged to inculcate good values in school. Why the double standard impose on non-Muslim societies?

Phan Gaik Cher: The education minister is lying through his teeth. For the longest time non-Muslim religious societies have been banned in schools by Education Ministry. How is it that everybody is feigning ignorance of the directive now?

Keturunan Malaysia: DPM, did you order the imposition of a ban on the formation of non-Muslim religious societies in national schools? If yes, please say it loud and clear. If no, do so likewise and punish those school heads and teachers who do so. The rakyat have every right to know. Failing to hear from you and/or your deputy - we take it as yes.

Anonymous: Is the education minister aware of what is happening in the schools? If he is not aware, then he should resign as the education minister. If he is aware, then what is he doing about it? Is he looking the other way and pretend not to know?

All schools should be allowed to have their own religious societies. After all, we should respect all religions. The federal constitution is very clear about this.

Gen2: The schools which are supposed to educate our children don't know how to read and interpret circulars properly. Or else this is a case of the chief secretary's PTD (administrative and diplomatic) officers deliberately sabotaging Najib Razak's 1Malaysia.

Either way, as usual, Muhyiddin Yassin is clueless about what is happening in his ministry. So much for our confidence in our education system.

Petestop: MCA, let me ask you one question? Are you part of the government or not? Why are you raising issues as if you are the opposition? If you are part of the government, why can't you decide on this issue, instead of raising it in the press?

Sabah, S'wak activists want out from Malaysia

Sarawakian: Most people in the two states would agree to severing from Malaya. There is little doubt that we have been cheated by the BN of what should have been a partnership instead of being treated as their piggy bank and nothing else.

For the non-bumi who have been here for three to four generations, their ancestors toiled with sweat and tears to build up the two states, they now find that they are even less privileged than Malays from Malaya, many whom never even set foot in the two states. Even the illegals in Sabah are treated better by ‘orang Malaya'.

They plundered the states and yet gave very little back in return. The money is used to build grandiose projects, all in Malaya and for scholarships for their children. No wonder they called us their ‘fixed deposit'. Yes, it's time we cut the Gordian knot while there's still something left.

Proarte: Why should Sabah and Sarawak continue to be exploited by Umno and its proxies? How shocking that Sabah, a state which has contributed tens of billions to the national coffers should not see any commensurate benefit. Umno, true to its piratical nature, has bled Sabah and Sarawak dry.

The Queen Elizabeth hospital in Kota Kinabalu is in shambles and is in a state of disrepair. What a telling indictment of Umno's greed and misrule. Malays must realise Sabah and Sarawak is not their 'bapak punya negara'. It is about time that Sabah and Sarawak are given full autonomy.

Bryan Michael SM Yeo: Just a simple question: how much money has Petronas alone, not to mentioned custom duties and income tax, collected from Sabah and Sarawak? How much did the two east Malaysian states get in return? Can somebody enlighten us, please?

Loyal Malaysian: It is a pipe dream of the activists that the Umnoputras will allow Sabah and Sarawak to leave Malaysia. Their best bet will be to encourage their rakyat to vote the Umnoputras out of Putrajaya. Perhaps a new and fairer deal can be negotiated with the Pakatan Rakyat leadership.

Taib Mahmud in London on mission to sell Sarawak

Joe: I hear you're wondering aloud when will MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency) open a file on Abdul Taib Mahmud? You can wait until the next Ice Age.

Nevertheless, take heart. Do you notice, whatever the lackeys of Umno say (Nik Ali Mat Yunus) or do (goons in blue), even what they don't say (admit they are the third hand behind Perkasa) or they don't do (like the MACC in this case), they discredit Umno. Do you notice this?

Umno is chalking up a credibility deficit continuously. We just have to be still and the Umno folks will still be running themselves down!

Tan Kian Khim: Excellent title - ‘'Taib Mahmud in London on mission to sell Sarawak' - that really sums up what Taib Mahmud has been doing all this while, doesn't it? He's been carving up and selling Sarawak for decades like a piece of prime beef, but not in the way Bernama intended to portray.

Ahmad Daud: Taib in London, Najib in Long Banga. Well, well, who is smarter? Taib knows how to enjoy life.
