Open verdict: 'Teoh's death not suicide or homicide'

AnakBangsaMalaysia: The open verdict was expected - if not hoped for - by the many of us who are familiar with the case. It was already glaringly obvious to all - even the people trying to deny and twist the truth - that Teoh Beng Hock died of foul play if not outright murder at the Selangor MACC headquarters in Plaza Masalam.

It was therefore not possible for coroner Azmil Muntapha Abas to return a verdict of 'suicide' - which would almost certainly result in an uncontrollable explosion of public outrage. But neither could the coroner return a verdict of 'homicide' - the result dreaded by MACC and the Umno-BN regime - which would add further momentum to the call for a proper royal commission of inquiry to investigate Teoh's death.

If the Malaysian judiciary will not give Teoh and his family the justice they deserve, then it falls to the court of the people to demand - and exact - justice. Teoh must not be allowed to die in vain. May his death be the straw that breaks the back of the evil that killed him.

Tmf: TBH was in MACC's custody and that in turn was the attempt of the BN government to create issues to take over the Pakatan Rakyat state government. The collective cover-up by MACC on the brutality inflicted on TBH is obvious and such collective cover-up is possible because the officers involved knew the real political agenda in the investigation and that they will be protected by the powers-that-be.

The inquest failed because it allowed MACC officers to lied and to deceive the court. Most telling was the fact that the officers were summoned to Putrajaya for direction upon the ‘discovery' of TBH's body instead of informing the police immediately.

I believe that all those who were involved in directly or indirectly causing the death of TBH will be haunted for the rest of their lives. Only the truth will set them free.

Anonymous_3e86: More correctly, the verdict should have been manslaughter not amounting to murder. It was perhaps more of an MACC interrogation gone wrong. The death wasn't intended, like the A Kugan case.

Lim Chong Leong: The coroner found there was injury to the neck prior to fall. This is indicative of foul play and therefore suspicious circumstances strongly suggesting homicide. If there was insufficient evidence to rule homicide, then order further inquiry, even into possible cover-up.

Anonymous: Given the shoddy work that the investigating police done, is it any wonder that no other verdict than open verdict can be reached? That too assuming they really want the truth to be made known.

Perhaps a few months down the road, another piece of evidence would surface, shall we wait for it? In Altantuya Shaariibuu's case, we have two murder convicts without motive for murder, in TBH, we have a victim who neither killed himself nor killed by others.

How much more 1Malaysia can we ask?

Klangboy: An open verdict is good enough. Good enough to show that those who claim that it was suicide and fabricated and twisted facts to try to make it look like suicide should be brought to book for perjury.

Ferdtan: We could have accepted the 'open verdict' ruled by the coroner, if we had seen a fair and diligent investigation by the MACC. The conduct of the whole inquest leaves much to be desired.

We can see clearly the MACC, BN ministers, police and even the coroner were putting obstacles in the way to prevent the truth from coming out: they even cast aspersions on TBH's integrity - that he was a corrupted young man.

Actually, the real purpose of an inquest is to find out the true cause of death, in this case TBH. All must cooperate with one another. However, in this inquest, the MACC and the court officials were belligerent, as if they were on trial (and I think they are).

Wong Jiang Fung: If Teoh's death is neither suicide nor homicide, the coroner must have meant that Teoh had died by other accidental causes (slipped and fell over from window?). This verdict is too cruel to be true.

Moontime: An open verdict by the coroner is similar to taking the middle ground by not blaming anyone for the death of Teoh Beng Hock.

However, I still believe deep in my heart that he was murdered based on the overwhelming evidence submitted by Dr Pornthip Rojanasunand and others. The MACC officers must have breathed a sigh of relief and those who are guilty of murdering him can smile for now.

You may escape punishment here in this world but remember one day you will die and have to face the consequences of your actions in the afterlife. So, go ahead and ignore the cries of the late Teoh Beng Hock's family.
