Will MACC follow Sarawak Report's lead?

vox populi small thumbnail 'No wonder they don't like the Internet! And they want to curb it, like requiring a licence to operate a website because they hate whistleblowers.'

S'wak DCM's 'mistress' linked to hospital project

Not Confused: Don't worry, these despicable pirates will end up either in a wooden box or in a concrete cell at some point in the future. When Pakatan Rakyat takes over Putrajaya, they must try to recover as much of the illicit wealth that has been sucked out of the taxpayers hard-earned contributions to the country's coffers.

It's disgusting that they flaunt their wealth in front of everyone but try to hide their business dealings, hoping that no one will notice the complex web of companies that all feed back to the top Sarawak government leaders. We are no longer ignorant of these goings-on, so don't treat us as fools.

Anonymous_3da0: Kick them out by all means but please don't put Umno in their place. Umno has been trying to enter Sarawak, but can't do it with Abdul Taib Mahmud and gang around. See what happened in Sabah. Umno will pay handsomely to get into Sarawak, and there are many there willing to sell their souls.

Meranti Kepong: It is a pity, and perhaps even a tragedy, that MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) is totally ineffective to bring these two allegedly corrupted Sarawakian politicians, Taib Mahmud and George Chan, to justice for swindling and stealing billions from the simple people of Sarawak who are being hoodwinked by them.

Atan-Toyol: No wonder they don't like the Internet! And they want to curb it, like requiring a licence to operate a website because they hate whistleblowers.

Geronimo: Another one of the BN ‘We screw it up, you the rakyat pay' syndrome. Just looking at how the intra and inter-family scheme works makes you want to puke. Are the Sarawakians blind to all these shenanigans?

NP: Will MACC take action? I doubt it.

BN likely to miss Tenang majority target

Atan-Toyol: If Regina Lee's assessment is correct, then my conclusion is that majority of Malays can tolerate corruption committed by the BN politicians; they also can accept insults the porn-star hurled at the PAS candidate, who herself is a fellow Muslim of the Felda settlers.

Corruption appears not to be 'haram' to these Malay voters; to them perhaps only pork and alcoholic drinks are 'haram'. Having tainted leaders is okay to them. What has happened to these Malays, the so-called devout Muslims in Malaysia?

Soapbox_40a0: Pakatan Rakyat should focus GE13 on states with 50 percent Malays as there is a good chance to get the votes of majority non-Malays and liberal-minded Malays, whereas in the majority of Malay constituencies, it's a hard fight as the Malays get easily bought by small gifts.

Dood: "But despite it all, it is expected that the Indian votes will remain with the BN, out of blind loyalty and an ingrained sense of gratitude."

And one wonders why many poor Indians remain poor and taken advantage of.

Petestop: Indeed, I wonder why Indians continue to vote for BN, when statistics showed that the most deaths in custody belongs to this community.

Gov't agrees to edit Interlok novel: DPM

Kit P: Edit ‘Interlok'? No! That's an unsatisfactory solution to a wrong-headed decision in the first place. It just shows the faulty book selection process in the first place, the seeming lack of consideration or sensitivity about the attitudes espoused in the book.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not calling for the book to be banned. I'm a strong opponent of KDN's (Home Ministry's) frequent banning of all kind of books from being imported or being published in the country.

‘Interlok' isn't suitable to be used for teaching as a Form 5 literature text in a multi-ethnic society like ours. It's not just a few offending individual words, it's the tone and theme in large portions of the book. How do you edit that out?

Kunalan G Ahthilhitan: How do you edit a novel? Remove the word 'pariah' and replace it will 'lower caste' (kasta rendah)? It still defies what the Indian people want ... remove the novel as it is outdated and historically incorrect and not in line with the 1Malaysia preaching.

MIC, defender of the Indians, has failed again.

Teoh's family wants four more in RCI panel

Lusiapa: This is a very fair request by the Teoh Beng Hock (TBH) family. The RCI (royal commission of inquiry) panel must consist of people of impeccable integrity and character; and the seven proposed nominees certainly belong to this category of Malaysians most suited to perform the task.

Public reservation on the five nominated by the government is totally justified. The PM must be seen to do justice to a family so aggrieved by this unnecessary wanton tragedy. Enlarging the panel to include at least one or two such eminent citizens is well within Najib Razak's powers. He must bow to public pressure once again.

Tired: The TBH family should not be demanding too much. First, they demanded a RCI, they got it but are unhappy because the terms of reference were too narrow. The government gave in and fulfilled their wish. Now they want their candidates as panel members.

What next? Report to be submitted to them first before it is made public? The findings should confirm that TBH was murdered? Najib and his cabinet should take full responsibility and resign?

This has become a case of "beri betis nak peha". Please be reasonable. Don't allow public sympathy to turn into disgust.

Lonestar: Chinese New Year may just be around the corner but one can't expect the PM to be agreeable to everything or dishing out goodies aplenty. He has his hands full already in Tenang, Merlimau and Port Klang.

It would be nice to have former Court of Appeals judge NH Chan around or even the Tun (Dr Mahathir Mohamad), come to think of it, as members of the RCI. But don't we already know who is responsible for Teoh's demise? Wasn't he in the hands of civil servants at that time? Do we need a RCI to tell us who is ultimately responsible? Who are the employers of these civil servants?

When the 13th election comes, think wisely and vote wisely! For we are ultimately the employers of these not-so-civil, civil servants.

WanFirst: It is only fair that PM Najib should include the nominees recommended. What has BN to fear if the RCI can conclude on what had happened to Teoh Beng Hock's death? Even if the result would show the high-handedness of MACC, it is good that the future treatment of any suspect be done in justifiable means. The public is watching how this RCI can perform independently without any bias.

SusahKes: Why do I get this chilly feeling that this is going to end up exactly like how VK Lingam RCI did?
