Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers today raided the office of businessman Ang Leng Kiat, who is also a Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) member, and carted away about 50 boxes of files and documents.

NONE Speaking to Malaysiakini at his office, Ang (left) said six MACC officers from the anti-graft body's headquarters in Putrajaya arrived sometime after 10am without any prior notification and began collecting documents.

"They said they were conducting random checks on me and my company. They did not mention anything about MBSA," the DAP member said.

Ang who works in the shipping industry, is also a member of the Selangor DAP executive committee.

NONE He said the commission's officers wanted to check his personal documents and company files.

"I said go ahead," Ang said, shrugging off the visit as nothing to worry about.

The businessman said was willingly cooperating with the MACC as he had nothing to hide.

"By right they cannot take anything without a warrant, but will I cooperate with them," Ang said.

As at 4.20pm, the MACC team was still in the councillor's office in Klang, looking at files and office records.

'I am not scared'

"I am not scared about this thing, I have my lawyers standing by. "I am already used to these things," he said.

The councillor described the MACC officers as courteous and professional.

NONE "They are doing their job. They are very professional. I don't care if they want to take away anything, as long as they sign for it," said the councillor

Ang also said he has been inundated with calls from the media quizzing him about the visit and from DAP leaders expressing concern.

Among the DAP leaders who called him were Tan Kok Wai, Ean Yong Hian Wah as well as lawyers Ghanapathy and Tiew Way Keng, who offered to provide him legal advice.

“I told them, no need. As of now I can handle the officers myself,” said Ang.

Ang to meet MACC tomorrow

The team from the anti-graft body left Ang's office about 5pm, after spending nearly seven hours rummaging through documents, records and files.

The officers remained tight-lipped to the end, refusing to disclose any details to Ang.

When they left, the officers took with them about 50 boxes filled with files and documents, and issued the businessman with a seizure notice.

The councillor added that he was told to report to the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya tomorrow, at his leisure.

“They told me to come when I can, they said it is flexible, up to me when I am free. I have an MBSA full-board meeting tomorrow, so I am going after that,” Ang said.
