About 200 senior customs officers, relatives and friends converged at the Customs quarters in Kelana Jaya to say their prayers to Allahyarham Ahmad Sarbani Mohamed who died after a fall from the Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission building yesterday.

NONE They are still awaiting for Ahmad Sarbani’s ( left ) remains to be brought to the surau at the quarters from the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital in Cheras.

They just concluded the Yasin recital and doa for the late Ahmad Sarbani.

Many, when met, still expressed shock and disbelief over the incident.

Following the Yasin recital, a senior customs officer advised the staff members not to be disheartened by the incident and to redouble their efforts.

“We must increase our determination according to the law to fulfil the department’s vision,” he said.

NONE “Do not let this incident dishearten you,” he said, adding that this was the message given to him by the department director-general.

The person said the director-general,  Mohamed Khalid Yusuf, is still at the HUKM mortuary and is expected to arrive soon, and wanted him to pass the message.

A former Customs officer and friend to Ahmad Sarbani identifying himself as Hamzah said it was hard to believe that this had happened.

“Was he under tremendous pressure (by the MACC)? I know him, and as a Muslim he would not take his own life,” he said.

“I wish they would get to the bottom of things (resulting in his death),” said Hamzah, who has now become a lawyer.

A teacher who taught the youngest child to Ahmad Sarbani, who is in Year Six, said the boy cried loudly on learning about his father’s death.

NONE “I find it very hard to believe all this,” he said, adding that besides teaching Ahmad Sarbani’s youngest child, he had taught the other siblings in religious school.

After close to 400 people performed the Zohor (afternoon) prayers, some of them performed solat hajat (special) prayers which the imam said is for them to pray for divine intervention for God to show the truth and for the matter to be resolved.

Following prayers, an announcement was made that Ahmad Sarbani’s body is still at the HUKM for a post-mortem.

“It will take two or three hours for it to finish. I implore those of you who want to return home or go to work to do so but come back later  to perform the jenazah prayers,” the announcer said.

It is understood that an analysis of the post-mortem was being performed.

Tears streamed down the faces of relatives as Ahmad Sarbani’s remains were brought to the Customs Quarters at Kelana Jaya at 5.10pm.

It arrived from HUKM in a Royal Customs Department van.

The remains were then placed on the front of the Surau Ar-Rahman, for  400 men and women to pay their last respects and perform the solat jenazah .

Tears were clearly seen flowing down the face of a woman believed to be the deceased’s mother, who fainted on seeing her son's face.

The body was then brought to the Kota Damansara Muslim cemetery for burial at about 6.30pm.
