Khairy: IPP contracts of the 90s 'lopsided'
Keropok lekor: If the power purchase agreements were so lopsided and yet the government signed on the dotted line, the question then is who benefited? Who had the motivation to give away the whole house?
The MACC (Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission) should investigate this issue instead of probing ikan bilis (small fry) RM2,000 cases just because it involved the opposition. This is rotten to the core - the abuses of power and stealing public money.
ONG: According to 2006 StarBiz interview with Ani Arope, former chairman and chief executive of TNB (Tenaga Nasional Berhad), the IPP (independent power producer) contracts were drawn up with no negotiations, at least not what is generally understood to be a negotiation.
"There was no negotiation. Absolutely none. Instead of talking with IPPs, TNB was sitting down with the EPU (Economic Planning Unit). And we were harassed, humiliated and talked down. The EPU just gave us the terms and asked us to agree. I said no way I would... They said you just take it and I refused to sign the contracts. And then, I was put out to pasture," said Ani Arope.

Pemerhati: Most of the Umno and BN leaders try and steal as much money as they can through various crooked means when they are in power.
Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin and his father-in-law PM Abdullah Badawi and his close relatives, were strongly suspected to be involved in various deals such as the UN sponsored ‘Oil for food' programme in Iraq and the Monsoon Cup.
While Mahathir had Vincent Tan as the front man to do the deals, Khairy and Abdullah had Patrick Lim. Mahathir, during his 22 year premiership, probably stole the most money through various crooked deals, such as - to use Khairy's words - the lopsided, unfair and secretive power contracts with the IPPs.
Khairy, by saying this, is openly attacking Mahathir because there is no love lost between the two. Khairy is probably smarting from the fact that due to Mahathir's strong hold and influence on Najib, he was not given a ministerial post while Mukhriz Mahathir, whom he defeated for the Umno Youth chief's post, was made a deputy minister.
Nik V: Suddenly the government is the innocent victim by the unscrupulous independent power producers (IPPs) when all of us know that a lot of moolah has gotten into the grubby hands of Umno, MCA and other BN cronies through this type of negotiations.
BN leaders, regardless whether they are Muslims, Christians or Hindus or whatever, are great at putting their hands into the rakyat's coffers and stealing from the rakyat. Worst still, they lie about it. Power, greed, prejudice are what BN is all about.

Were the questions just poor in quality or has Malaysiakini only highlighted what they thought were the best ones? Either way, I'm worried. A bit hard to LMAO when the country is being sucked under by corruption, violence and systematic human rights abuses.
I don't want to be so hard on Khairy. He is just like the rest of us - young and easy going. But he also have his own back to take care for. Not so easy when you have the Mahathir team around.

Perlis issues fatwa against 1M'sia structures

Next time, Juanda or Perak mufti Harrusani Zakaria will come up with a fatwa advising Muslims not to stand at attention when they raise the Malaysian flag and sing the Negaraku. The flag could be an idol too. Not that I am pro-Umno, but this is too much.

Ferd Tan: What's happening? Even if I don't believe in 1Malaysia, which is all rhetoric, the fatwa against it is rather silly. It looks like PM Najib Razak has lost control. Maybe his opponents within Umno are trying to sabotage and ridicule him as he is closely associated with the logo.
This is an assault on the flanks of the PM: attack his projects, his supporters, though never at the man himself. Maybe it is a 'proxy' attack by way of a religious man as obviously it is too risky to attack him directly. Well, only the PM himself will know.
Women to form 'make wives obedient' club
TehTarik: If you want women to be totally obedient to their husbands, then emulate the Taliban. Ensure that women remain illiterate and uneducated. Ban girls from going to schools.
In Afghanistan, the Taliban are destroying schools for girls with the goal of producing obedient wives, whose purpose in life is to satisfy the husband sexually and also be a ‘baby factory'.
