Deputy inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar today refuted allegations by the opposition that police had used the same tear gas used by the Israeli troops when dispersing the illegal rally on July 9.

“... don’t create stories that we (police) used the CS (Combined Systems) gas or whatever. We don't reach that level. Don't create stories,” he told reporters here, after watching the Rujirawongse Cup rugby match between the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Royal Thailand Police (RTP).

He said this when commenting on the report in the Keadilan Daily news portal today. Among other things, the report quoted statements by several Parti Keadilan Rakyat leaders who claimed that the Federal Reserve Unit had used tear gas canisters similar to the ones used by the Israeli troops against the Palestinians.

NONE The report also claimed that the canisters supplied by Combined Systems to the Israeli troops contained chemicals that could affect the nervous system, caused injury to the eyes, lungs and skin disorder.

The report also claimed that the same type of canisters had been banned from being used in warfare under the Chemical Weapons Convention in 1993.

        

Commenting further on the matter, Khalid said he would study the portal’s news report before deciding on further action.

“Where did they learn all this? I call on everyone not to speak as they please. If (they) don’t know, don't say anything... if (they are) not sure, don’t say anything. Don’t make allegations,” he said.

Subsequently, he called on everyone to stop discussions on the illegal rally because this could cause fear among the people.

“Everyone should not talk (about the rally)... whether politicians or anyone else. Don’t aggravate the situation...,” he said.
