Some want to prolong Jais-DUMC controversy

your say 'Why is it taking so long to resolve the matter if Jais is so sure that Muslims were being proselytised at the dinner?'

S'gor sultan shocked by MB's announcement

Swipenter: It looks like only Selangor Pakatan Rakyat government wants to resolve the Jais-DUMC matter as soon as possible and in a transparent manner, but not anyone else.

These other guys just want to prolong the matter as long as possible in order to make the whole incident as fuzzy as possible.

What are they trying to cook this time? Why is it taking so long to resolve the matter if Jais is so sure that Muslims were being proselytised at the Damansara Utama Methodist Church (DUMC) dinner?

DannyLoHH: I am shocked that the sultan is shocked by Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim's announcement. Does it mean that His Majesty is not willing for an amicable solution to the impasse?

Khalid's announcement is the first step that could bring the whole Jais (Selangor Islamic Affairs Department) raid issue to a closure. If the sultan did not agree with Khalid's solution, does His Majesty has one himself?

Dood: It could have been a misunderstanding or miscommunication between the sultan and the MB.

But was it so bad that the sultan had to issue a "I am shocked" statement? Was it so bad for the people to have the impression that the sultan advised a council be formed to resolve the Jais-DUMC issue?

I mean, was it so bad for people to think that the sultan actually wanted to help resolve this issue?

AnakPinang: Syura is defined as:

1. a consultative council or assembly.

2. the process of decision-making by consultation and deliberation.

This was the solution proposed to and approved by the sultan. Why the fuss now? HRH (His Royal Highness) is supposed to support the resolution of a sensitive matter, not add fuel to fire.

Gerard Samuel Vijayan: Since the Pakatan took over the state in 2008, the palace has been very vocal and public about its comments and criticism of the state government, something that is unprecedented in the history of constitutional monarchy in Selangor.

Unusually, the palace was very cooperative with the previous Umno-BN government even during the various constitutional crises and the scandal involving the illicit marriage between a former Umno MB and the sister of the sultan.

The same was the case during the exposure of financial scandals involving the previous administration. Come GE13, the rakyat will know what to do.

Disgusted: It is clear that Sultan of Selangor does not support the current Selangor government. As Jais comes under his jurisdiction, he has been keeping quiet about the controversy surrounding its raid of the Harapan Komuniti's dinner.

Jais and Mais (Selangor Islamic Affairs Council) say they come under the sultan's jurisdiction as he is the head of Islam in the state and will only take orders from him. They have scant regard or respect for the MB and state exco.

However, behind the scenes, PAS exco Hasan Ali is plotting with Umno to bring down the Pakatan government in order to win a bigger post for himself. There seems to be a comprehensive plot to destablise the Selangor government using religious and racial issues.

Fortunately, the Muslim Aduns (state assembly representatives) in Selangor are a principled lot and can see through Umno's ploy, and they have decided to stick together rather than jump ship. Let's pray Selangor will be able to withstand this.

JBGUY: I would appreciate it if HH the Sultan of Selangor had the tact and diplomacy to talk to the MB instead of trying to undermine a legally elected MB by Selangorians.

The sultan should understand that the MB is representative of the rakyat of Selangor, while he inherited his position. The MB should not be undermined and by doing so, you are insulting the majority of the rakyat.

Bhajnik Singh: HRH has missed the issue here - that is to resolve the matter swiftly with all parties respecting one another, and not prolonging it. He should have welcomed this initiative by MB. As far as I am concerned, this should have been done the very next day.

Kgen: If a misunderstanding has occurred, can't it be resolved amicably in a better way rather than issuing a "shocked and angry" statement?

Royalty should not take sides or they will lose the respect of their subjects. Who supports the royalties' lifestyle? It is the people, not Umno.

At least, the sultan's statement has made it clear who controls Jais and Mais, and it is not MB Khalid or the Pakatan government.

Anonymous: MB Khalid, I pity you because you are too honest and do not know how to play wayang kulit like what the BN leaders do.

Thana55: Khalid should just do what is right. Be as respectful as it needs be, but do not compromise in pursuing what is right.

So far you have maintained your course despite the difficult terrain. We respect you for that, and you and the PKR team shall be victorious. God is on your side.

Pity Him: Khalid and Pakatan Rakyat is caught in a no-win situation. They cannot go head on with the almighty and cannot bring progress to the state that does not please the almighty.

They cannot condemn the almighty in the delay of the Shah Alam general hospital. The people suffer and they may instead blame Pakatan for it.

People Power: It is sad that the sultan, as the head of Selangor state, did nothing in this case but when the MB is trying to solve the problem, he is in fact dampening the efforts of the MB.

I hope that the sultan is truly neutral and apolitical and is sincere in wanting to resolve this.

Hopefully, this does not turn into another Perak fiasco.

Loyalty is earned, not expected just because of a person's position. I see no reason why the MB had to lie to resolve this issue.

MySecret: Honestly, I'm so tired of all this. I will remember who played out the rakyat and come GE 13 and subsequent GEs, will vote with a vengeance.

Cala: To me it is highly unlikely that the MB would announce a syura council or inter-religious dialogues for Selangor without consulting the sultan, given the existing institutional arrangements.

But there is nothing Khalid can do if the sultan chooses to backtrack from his earlier position. Let us look at Khalid's predicament in another way.

In my 30 over years of working in the private sector, I was reminded of the saying: The first rule is the boss is always correct. The second rule is if the boss happens to be wrong, go back to the first rule.

Makorang: And we are all shocked by the sultan's denial.
