MCA makes M'sians overseas very angry

YOURSAY 'I find this statement from MCA more insulting to me as a Malaysian residing in Hong Kong than anything I can imagine in my life.'

MCA against M'sians abroad being allowed to vote

your say Swipenter: MCA is well aware of the fact that expatriate Malaysians won't be voting for them because many of them left their country of birth for the very reason that MCA was, and still is, impotent in their hour of need.

Many left because they could not make a decent living here, leaving behind family and friends to try and make a livelihood in some strange land.

Many Chinese new villages were emptied of young people and husbands in the recession years of the 1990s when they were left with no choice but to "jump aeroplane" all over the world to find work and send money back to feed their families.

MCA is good only at helping MCAputras, their family and friends and their cronies. They are also good at sucking up to Umno for leftovers and crumbs and leave the Chinese community to fend for itself.

Calvert Yap: This is the most shameful statement from the MCA or any political party in Malaysia. I find this more insulting to me as a Malaysian residing in Hong Kong than anything I can imagine in my life.

I spend at least an hour of my time everyday to read all news about Malaysia, not just the alternative media but also the BN-owned mainstream media, listen and watch ceramahs on Youtube.

I flew back to Malaysia to vote in the last two elections, even missing an important board meeting the last time. Even my chairman understood that I was performing my responsibility as a Malaysian and he allowed me to do so.

I flew back, not to participate but to see with my own eyes, how it was at the Bersih rally. I went to all football or badminton games whenever I could when Malaysia was playing to support my country, even though I have to admit watching Malaysia playing football is not even near to my standard of good football.

Now they say I shouldn't vote because I don't know anything about my country. Sick!

Josephine: Considering there are altogether one million Malaysians working abroad, it is not right to deny them the right to vote.

How can MCA assume that these individuals are out of touch, since they certainly have Internet connections. Our PM and his entourage also make regular visits to touch base with them.

I would say, the only reason why these people should not be allowed to vote is because the BN machinery and the MSM (mainstream media) controlled by them cannot 'touch' these overseas Malaysians.

MCA should just say they don't want them to vote because these votes will most likely not go to the BN. Please call a spade, a spade.

Full of Crap: How dare they say that Malaysians living overseas are ‘out of touch' with the country. In fact, they are even better informed than Malaysians in Malaysia as their information is not censored and have no media to pull wool over their eyes.

Every Malaysian, in this country or abroad, has the right to vote regardless and it is enshrined in our constitution. Only failed states would prevent their citizens who are overseas from voting.

Cherry Bun: MCA central committee member Ei Kim Hock, do not insult intelligence of those Malaysian living overseas. We may know more than those living in Malaysia.

I am sure you know mainstream newspapers in Malaysia are all controlled by the BN government and news on corruption and miscarriage of justice seldom get published.

Dood: Let's see MCA spearhead the movement to cancel the right to vote that is already given to students and diplomatic staff based overseas.

Gusnargh: MCA shows poor reasoning skills but I'm not surprised. I do agree, however, that a few overseas Malaysians should not be able to vote.

For instance, those who have permanent residence elsewhere and who have not lived in Malaysia for more than three months in a year over the past 15 years.

One can argue that they are out of touch and may vote irresponsibly since they don't have to live with the consequences of their decision.

But for the other Malaysians who may be working for short stints overseas or who are studying overseas, let them vote.

Malaysiasakit: A right is a right. Who are you to deny citizens the right to vote? Why do you care whether we are working - with or without permanent resident status - students or retirees?

Who are you to judge whether the news we read are biased? So long as there is a sizeable population of eligible Malaysians living in a country, it is the duty of the government to provide polling facilities in the major cities.

There is no point in talking about being a high-income society or having developed nation status when we don't respect the basic right of a citizen to vote.

Confused: Is this the type of party you who want represent you? Those who are living abroad are still citizens of Malaysia and as citizens they have the right to vote.

On the contrary, in fact the people who are living in Malaysia are the ones getting biased news and are misinformed. Look at the media at home. All are controlled by the government.

If MCA is going on this basis, then I would say everyone is Malaysia should not be allowed to vote because they do not get unbiased news or information.

Wira: It is precisely because most Malaysians abroad are victims of the condescending stance adopted by the MCA all these years to appease a corrupt Umno that it fears that 99 percent of those overseas would vote against the party.

Malaysians abroad will help nail the coffin on MCA. They know too well.

Cina Bukit: MCA is ‘neutral' on indelible ink? Nice try!
