Pakatan Rakyat’s six-prong strategy to win public support has been unflatteringly compared to the P Ramlee movie ‘Enam Jahanam’ .

Making the comparison when addressing the Umno Youth annual general meeting in Kuala Lumpur today, its head Khairy Jamaluddin described the strategies as arising from “political greed”.

NONE "Society is not spared from having to face a modern version of the ‘Enam Jahanam’ in the form of repulsive politics deployed by the opposition. This is revealed by their six-pronged strategy to bring down the country,” he said.

First, he said, the opposition wants to destroy the democratic system.

"Their goal has never been to have a free and fair electoral system. Instead they have been trying hard to manufacture panic and disorder," he said.

azlan He took a swipe at PKR deputy president Azmin Ali, who had pledged to break down prison walls in order to free Anwar Ibrahim, should the latter be convicted of sodomy.

"How romantic. These are no words of a democrat. There is absolutely no regard for law and order, or the integrity of the judical system.

"It is now crystal clear that their agenda is only to see Anwar become the prime minister whether it is by lawful or unlawful means. To them democracy is but a political tool to be used seasonally if and when it serves their purpose.”

The five other parts of the strategy were described as intended destruction of the administrative system, national dignity, nation’s history, ethnic identity and economic prosperity.

Training his guns at Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, Khairy said Umno has never painted a bad picture of the country’s leaders.

NONE “However in less than a term, Lim had no doubts about going to Singapore and making disparaging remarks about Johor, simply to portray a situation that may be deemed favourable to his party,” he said.

“Lim knows that Johor is on track to getting the biggest share of investments from Singapore. He made those remarks out of sheer jealousy hoping to scare the investors away,” he said.

Those remarks, Khairy said, show Lim does not have pride in Johor receiving investments.

“It was as if Penang was not part of Malaysia. To him everything including the welfare and well-being of Malaysians is secondary to the interests of DAP and its republic in Penang,” he swiped.

He ended his speech by reminding members not to be careless or complacent.

“We must not live on past glories. The challenges we will face in the coming elections will be the toughest in the history of general elections.

“Umno Youth will not never desert from the battlefield. We know how important this struggle is for the future of our people,” he said.

Members can evaluate his leadership

Outside the hall, Khairy was asked on whether he thinks himself as an effective leader, coming up with various solutions for youth, to which he responded that it is to the public and members to decide.

“It would be up to the party leadership to assess. I want to make sure that my leadership has a clear vision and direction.

“I do not want to have liberal and progressive politics without me explaining it. It took sometime for them (members) to catch on, and to which they did.

“Whether it succeeded, it is up to them to decide. I am clear from the start over what I want to do.”

However the focus, he said, should be on the general election rather than the party elections.

“Elections first and party elections come after that. For the party elections, they can decide and if they do not like me they can vote me out,” he said.

Asked whether Umno Youth is seeking more allocation for its candidates the next time round, Khairy said it would be up to the PM to decide.

“What we want is to put out are winnable candidates. It is not about numbers... It is preferable to put a small number of winnable candidates who can win compared to posting a larger number who cannot win,” he said.
