The younger sister of Teoh Beng Hock is crying foul over the line of questioning by police on the report she lodged against three anti-graft officers implicated in the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) findings.

Teoh Lee Lan said the questions asked were on the RCI’s findings on Beng Hock’s death and whether there was a possibility that her brother committed suicide.

She said the investigating officer, ASP Lai Lee Peng, also asked her to identify which Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officer had allegedly committed a crime in relation to her brother’s death.

NONE “I'm just a commoner. The (RCI) had investigated this and came up with a conclusion. They should investigate this, not ask me. How am I supposed to tell who committed what crime?" she lamented.

Lee Lan was speaking to reporters after spending two-hours having her statements recorded at the Tun HS Lee police station in Kuala Lumpur.

Her lawyer, Teo Nie Ching, said the investigating officer appeared to be more interested in discussing Beng Hock’s psychological state instead of the RCI indictment against the three MACC officers.

"We objected. We were complaining about the officers named in the RCI report, but she (ASP Lai) asked us whether Beng Hock was dependent on his phone, whether he was busy with work or if he was under a lot of stress,” said Teo, who is also the Serdang MP.

"And she went back to asking whether Beng Hock committed suicide," interjected Lee Lan.

"In our opinion, (the questions) are unrelated (to the report)," continued Teo.

Family still rejects suicide verdict

Teo clarified that the decision by Beng Hock’s family to pursue criminal action against the MACC officers was not becuase Beng Hock's family accepted the RCI's suicide theory.

NONE "But at least the RCI report was clear that Beng Hock was ' driven to suicide '," and this is sufficient basis for action under the Penal Code, said Teo ( left ).

Lee Lan said that it had taken over a month for the police to call her up to have her statements recorded and hoped she would be kept abreast of the progress in investigations.

On Oct 28, Lee Lan lodged the police report after de facto Law Minister Nazri Abdul Aziz told the Dewan Rakyat that no criminal investigation was initiated against MACC officers implicated in Beng Hock's death because no police report had been lodged.

The three MACC officers - then Selangor MACC deputy director Hishamuddin Hashim and his enforcement officers Mohd Anuar Ismail and Mohd Ashraf Mohd Yunus - were named in the RCI report for driving Beng Hock to suicide with four rounds of aggressive interrogation .

Another two MACC officers, Bulkini Paharuddin and Raymond Nion, were implicated for perjury and their statements were rejected by the RCI.
