No police report has been lodged, nor has any investigation been opened, against the three Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers implicated in the death of DAP political aide Teoh Beng Hock by the royal commission of inquiry three months ago.

As no reports had been lodged, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nazri Aziz said, there was no accompanying investigative evidence or witness accounts to compel the Attorney-General’s Chambers to commence prosecution against any person.

Although he gave his assurance that should any evidence and testimonies to convict them surface, the AG will take action.

The minister was winding up for the PM’s Department for matters with regard to law and parliament which is under his purview, responding to inquiries over the matter by Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo.

However, Nazri said, the three officers named in the RCI over Teoh’s mysterious fall that caused his death at the anti-graft body’s Selangor headquarters in Shah Alam were being investigated by MACC’s internal special task force.

“If it is proven offenses and procedural breaches had been committed, suitable disciplinary actions will be meted out against them,” said Nazri.

The minister explained the delay in actions being taken against the trio as caused by the request from the MACC that a more thorough investigation be carried out before the task force made its recommendations to the commission’s disciplinary committee.

Asked by Gobind, who stood up to intervene, if it would require another police report from family members to galvanise action by police or the AG to look into possible culpability of the trio, Nazri said he can only report what he knew and not comment on the actions of the police which is under the purview of the Home Ministry.

The Puchong MP continued to express his incredulity that the findings of an RCI which is supposed to find the facts of the case cannot precipitate any action from the police and the AG, though Nazri continue to wave away the opposition politician’s prodding.
