Come off it, that's not exactly a flag

YOURSAY ‘We seem to be becoming like North Korea, glorifying the PM and treating him like he is beyond criticism.'

University to probe 'Najib flag' incident

your say Ashoka PJ: Obviously student activist Adam Adli has more guts, principles, vision and grey matter than Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) vice-chancellor Zakaria Kasa.

Zakaria, Adam did not bring down the Malaysian flag or desecrate it. What was his action compared to grown-up Umno men stomping on Penang CM Lim Guan Eng's photo and bringing a coffin to his office or the Perkasa goons who burnt Bersih coordinator S Ambiga's picture.

What is so grievous about what Adam has done? In fact, this 22-year-old lad has more guts than many of you good-for-nothing, underworked and overpaid rent-seekers.

Adam, don't worry. If anything happens to you, we the rakyat will take other action in hand.

Hang Babeuf: Just get this clear and straight. It was not - in any normal or technically correct sense of the word - a flag.

It was (in the English sense of the word, not the vulgar Malay sense) just a bit of display ‘bunting'. A party political banner, a ‘sepanduk', a piece of (shabbily) decorative ‘kain rentang'.

If people go on having, or affecting (pretending to have), these ever more frequent paroxysms of (usually feigned) outrage, half the country will die of a heart attack even before an election can be called. Just calm down everyone.

If you can't stay calm, then be constructive: try to have the game of ‘Maruah: Who is more offended than whom?' officially adopted for competition at the next SEA Games. A certain gold, a sure three-medal triumph, for Malaysia.

VP Biden: It is an utter disgrace to the academia when a vice-chancellor bows to Umno thugs. Hidup Adam Adli!

Abasir: I have always believed that ‘ mendewa-dewakan manusia ' to the extent of making flags with human images and hoisting them up is disallowed in Islam. But I guess in Umno's brand of Islam, this deviant behaviour is actively encouraged.

Popeye: My sympathy to the student. You just showed your feelings. The problem here is that BN is god. God and the universe is one, but in Malaysia the BN is almighty.

I am sad you might not even get a job even though you are bright. Anyway only the blighted would join BN. It may be a blessing in disguise, you might do well in other countries.

God acts in very mysterious ways. So have faith.

Disgusted: Is there a Najib flag? What next, a Najib coin, Najib underwear for men and FLOM (First Lady of Malaysia) underwear for women?

We seem to becoming like North Korea, glorifying the PM and treating him like he is beyond criticism and he and his grand lady should be revered.

I am amazed at the length civil servants will fall over each other to stoop and ‘bodek' Umno people just to get promotions, perks and titles. It doesn't matter how they perform in their jobs, just boot-licking will get them far.

1M for All: Too bad with the gimmick of lowering the flag which happens to depict the PM. If it happens to ordinary people, there would not be an issue.

The PM should cool the situation down by being forgiving as the ‘father' of the nation. Just give the students a warning never to do such a thing again. Students make mistake which they may regret later in their life. This is part of the learning process.

There is no need for the higher education minister to call a student group ‘biadap', that is not a nice Malay word.

Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin and Puteri Umno condemn the students for being immature and emotional. Then again, look at the PJU Umno 'Mr Kaki Ludah' - don't we think they, too, are more immature, overemotional and prone to violence.

Blind Freddo: It's symptomatic of how fouled up the Malaysian university system is when the vice-chancellor is leading a vendetta against a student who dares to have a different opinion.

How about concentrating a bit more on the standards of your university and the attitudes of your staff? That, after all, is your job.

Milosevic: Yes, learned vice-chancellor, you should severely punish these cocky students, who are so mistaken about the lack of academic freedom in Malaysia.

Worse still, they are desecrating the images of our great leaders. Najib has been a tireless freedom fighter and an inspiring leader. His constancy of purpose and consistency of principles is unsurpassed.

As prime minister he has tried so hard to secure the best defence arrangements for the country, and is willing to spend any amount to ensure our safety. Under him, the cattle industry has taken off, the jewelry business is thriving, and 1Malaysia has brought deep unity to the country.

These students have no understanding of the higher virtues or Rosmah Mansor's feelings. It's not so much a flag issue as undermining inspiring values embodied by our selfless leaders.

As VC you have a duty to ensure our young obey our leaders and appreciate their superior ways. Please punish them severely. Bring back the ‘rotan' (cane).
