Even as threats are being made online against Legasi Mahasiswa Progesif coordinator Adam Adli for lowering the ‘Najib flag’, other netizens have taken to cyberspace in his defence.

armand azha attack adam adli video The most recent of these efforts is a Facebook page poking fun at a Youtube video of Petaling Jaya Utara Umno Youth information chief Armand Azha (right) , in which he threatens to "spit on" and "slap" Adam.

The Facebook page , entitled ‘ Kami Peminat Setia Bro Gemuk (Kaki Ludah)’ - or We are loyal fans of the fat brother (the spitter) - has an image of Armand as its logo and has garnered close to 1,000 'likes' at the time of writing.

A group of youngsters have remade the threatening video into a parody, imitating and exaggerating Armand's body language in the original video.

Adam, a student at Universiti Perguruan Sultan Idris, had at last Saturday's academic freedom protest, reportedly lowered a flag bearing the image of premier Najib Abdul Razak.

The move has prompted university authorities to warn that they would take "stern action" if the allegation is true, but netizens have honoured the act of symbolic protest.

we are all adam adli facebook fanpage A Facebook page set up in support of Adam , entitled ‘We are all Adam Adli’, has more than quadrupled to nearly 10,000 'likes' over the last 24 hours.

The title is adapted from the ‘We are all Khaled Said’ Facebook page set up by Google executive Wael Ghonim, a key figure during the Egyptian uprising earlier this year.

‘Just expel him’

In contrast, another Facebook page demanding that Adam should apologise stood at 1,200 ‘likes’ at the time of writing.

Two of the comments read: ‘The government gives some political space and he wants to get back at the government...’ and ‘There is no need for apology, just expel him’.

However, the page has been a target of Adam's supporters, gloating with posts about the rapid rise in 'likes' on their own page.

The flag-lowering incident has angered Umno members including Deputy Higher Education Minister Saifuddin Abdullah who has demanded that the students should apologise.

Solidariti Mahasiswa Malaysia, a key mover of the protest together with Gerakan Menuntut Kebebasan Akademik, have refused to apologise, stressing that it was a legitimate act of protest.
