Kedah Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak said the PAS central leadership's steering committee to oversee his administration has no right to limit his powers as the state's chief executive officer.

This, according to Malay daily Sinar Harian today, is because the state constitution does enshrine for such powers, therefore the committee cannot interfere in government affairs.

"In this state, we must follow the state's constitution... the steering committee in my view is merely to give private advice. To me, anyone can give advice," he was quoted as saying.

penang kedah timber logging azizan abdul razak 310708 03 The comments come less than a week after the PAS central leadership announced peace deal to settle the feud between Azizan, ( left ) who is Kedah PAS commissioner and his deputy Phahrolrazi Zawawi who had refused to be reappointed as exco in protest against the former's leadership.

Under the deal, Azizan was to accept a steering committee to oversee his administration while Phahrolrazi and his ally, Ismail Salleh, end their boycott of the state government and accept reappointment as exco members.

Anwar's courtesy call

However, in the report, Azizan declined to comment further as the composition and terms of reference of the committee have yet to be announced.

Opposition leader and PKR supremo Anwar Ibrahim, who had paid Azizan a courtesy call yesterday, said the steering committee is will be similar to his role as Selangor economic advisor to the menteri besar.

"As economic advisor to the Selangor menteri besar (Khalid Ibrahim), I merely advise based on views from fellow party leaders who are experienced but I do not take over the menteri besar's powers," he said.
