Shahnaz, don't let the Taib family get off the hook, again

VOXPOP 'By taking this so-called easy way out, the suspicion and disbelief about the family's assets will continue to smoulder and fester.'

Taib's son offers out-of-court settlement

vox populi small thumbnail Not Confused: Oh, how convenient. Now Mahmud Abu Bekir Taib, the son of the Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud, won't have to list all his assets and show just exactly how much he has benefitted from the alleged corrupt practices of the entire family.

Now isn't that a surprise? The problem is, by taking this so-called easy way out, the suspicion and disbelief about the family's assets will continue to smoulder and fester.

It's actually good news for the opposition which can continue to make hay while the sun shines. They will all get their just deserts - just be patient a little longer.

Ksn: Shahnaz A Majid should double her claim to RM800 million and she will get it without any hassle. The reason is because her ex-husband dares not declare his assets.

When are the robbers of Malaysia - and there are quite a number of them, along with their families - going to be exposed and punished for their ill-gotten wealth at the expense of the country, her people, especially the poor?

I am an optimist and therefore that wish and prayer will come true, sooner or later - the sooner, the better for all.

Malaysia ABU: Ask the son of Taib to declare assets? This is like asking him to wash his dirty linen in public. He would rather pay an extravagant sum to settle the case out of court.

Fencesitter: Shahnaz, be strong despite been physically and emotionally abused . Think carefully what you want from Bekir, now he seem to be a little worried after being ordered by the court to declare his assets.

Bekir might have been big, strong and powerful but now he feel small.

Anonymous_3e79: For the sake of the nation, please reject the offer and proceed to demand that he declare his assets.

Anti-PPSMI rally at Muhyiddin's turf soon

Paul Warren: What a bunch of blind people. Don't they know that Umno is pleased with this so that the majority of the people will soon become the underclass to an elite group that is being nurtured?

No one can rationally explain the deluge of international schools being opened all over the Klang Valley and in major towns. Even Kepong in Kuala Lumpur will soon have one.

In the next 20 years or so, there will be a critical mass of students from these schools who will sit on top of the average Malaysian just about everywhere.

And who can afford these schools? Those who can afford anything from RM30,000 to RM60,000 per year per child. So go figure.

Dingy: Go to any private school and you will find their students speak better English than teachers in national schools.

Students in national schools will be at the disadvantage when they study in university. National schools will become second class.

Yum: Anti-PPSMI (Teaching of Sciences and Maths in English) coalition group leader Prof Dr Shaharir Mohamad Zain earned his doctorate at La Trobe University from Australia.

As far as I can tell, this university teaches in English and expects its dissertations to be in English as well. How would he have earned his degree without English?

Does he still read international journals? Aren't those in English? Or does he think he has made it, he does not need to improve his knowledge anymore?

Why does he want to limit his kind from aspiring to the same lofty levels he achieved? It is probably right, that like crabs of a certain type, he is trying to pull down his own people.

P Dev Anand Pillai: Dr Mahathir Mohamad saw the root cause of the lack of confidence amongst the higher ranking civil servants is their inability to converse fluently in English.

He set out to at least allow the learning of Science and Maths in English, which would create a generation that would not be shy to communicate in English and take on the world of information which is predominately in English.

But the Malays feel otherwise and do not wish to learn any other language except their own. So the losers will be the Malays themselves.

U S^^K: Let's see what was the initial PPSMI target was. It was to enrich our children to face the world outside with a good command in English.

I'm not against Bahasa Malaysia but one must face the fact that the world's working environment is looking for those with a good command of English.

I'm a manager in one of Malaysia's largest companies which has overseas investments. There were few occasions where I was involved in some of the interviews for executive posts.

It's sad to say their command in English was so bad that they couldn't even converse a single sentence in the language. And they were from our country's universities.

We are now moving towards globalisation and most of our business is with the rest of the world. If we are to excel in business, a good command in English is a must.

How can a company place a non-English speaking representative in a post which exposes him to international clients?

Let our children have a better future in English with PPSMI.
