Teng's BlackBerry blunder sparks BN walkout

 
your say Jeremy Ng: Technically, the state assembly speaker has to be neutral. But this tendency for bias has been going on in Parliament and BN-controlled state assemblies for the last 50 years. Given the appointment mechanism, there is no way true neutrality can happen.

What BN has done is much worse - the abuse and manipulation of its powers over our public institutions (the police, anti-corruption agency and the judiciary included).

These institutions by right should be totally neutral, but sadly they are used at the expense of public protection and good governance.

This has resulted in Malaysia having truly rotten public institutions. Good officials can never operate, resulting in total unprofessionalism, inefficiency and rampant corruption at every level. This can only be changed by BN's removal from power.

Don't play-play: It's very funny, Selangor speaker Teng Chang Kim caught with his pants down. That's embarrassing indeed. That makes him not fit to sit in the speaker's chair.

Fencesitter: To me, there is nothing wrong in Teng's SMS. Teng is from Pakatan Rakyat and is giving advice to fellow Pakatan representatives, what is wrong with that? If Teng mentioned it while the House was in session, then to me that is bias.

BN state assemblypersons are not smart; they should proceed with the sitting and at anytime Teng acts unfairly, they can then bring out this SMS as evidence. Walking out just over a SMS is betraying the voters who voted for these assemblypersons.

Linjunlin: What's wrong with asking the Adun (state assemblypersons) to talk about the state government's successes? In fact, the opposition Aduns should promote the state's successes so as to attract foreign investment (FDI).

AkuDahUbah: I think Teng has made an unforgivable mistake. He should not accuse others of ungentlemanly conduct.

Instead, he should do the gentlemanly thing, apologise and tender his resignation. Pakatan must be better than BN, in all aspects of governance.

Budak : Teng doesn't need to apologise; his message shows his concern for the rakyat and their grievances, and to ensure these grievances are well debated in the state assembly.

Dan Guliano : What's so wrong for a speaker to ask the exco to talk about the successes of the Pakatan state government? Even if he had said it out loud in the Dewan, the BN reps should not complain.

BN reps shouldn't be hypocrites. At least, the Selangor speaker never brushed aside any legitimate motions like the Dewan Rakyat speaker always does.

Lim Chong Leong: Teng was only proposing that Pakatan reps use that opportunity wisely. There is nothing biased in that. He would have advised BN reps to do the same too, if they had done anything good.

The speaker is for most occasions elected from the majority of the House and they inevitably will pick someone from their own party. The constitution allows for that.

Unlike the position of judges, especially the chief justice (CJ), the speaker can remain a member of his party and can function as speaker without the fear of bias as long as the laws and rules are followed.

This is because of the open nature of the House which safeguards against this bias. Voters can decide in the next election how biased or not Teng has been and vote accordingly.

This is unlike the appointed position of the CJ. Of course, we did not see any strong objection from BN when the CJ was an active Umno member.

And of course, they are not saying anything about parliamentary speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia being biased in favour of BN in Parliament either.

Rakyat Malaysia: Well, talking about good deeds is not a crime, right?

Bias? Football teams also talk about their great players. Everyone will find such an opportunity. This is politics.

BN also talks about their RM500 handout on national TV which I sort of want to vomit whenever they make the RM500 sounds like it is RM5 million.

If it is not because of Penang CM Lim Guan Eng setting the example by his cash aid to senior citizens, BN would never ever give out money. So, say thanks to Lim for his contribution.

Malaysian Bersih: Look at the august House, who is more biased? The BN controls the Parliament.

And what is wrong with Teng doing the right thing for his own party? He did not instruct them to condemn Umno-BN, so why the fuss?

Batupahat: Teng's blunder has unwittingly revealed the spy - the Umno running dog named Hasan Ali.

No point if only one side plays by the rule
