Free education possible under an honest gov't

VOXPOP 'Cut out corruption, white elephant projects and the BTN (Biro Tata Negara), and enough funds will be freed up.'

Anwar moots wide-ranging education reform

vox populi small thumbnail Fairnessforall: I think Pakatan Rakyat is on the right track. The most important thing for Malaysia is education, and if corruption is cut and spending on white elephant projects stopped, including the ridiculous Biro Tata Negara (National Civics Bureau), then I am sure the government will have enough funds to provide free education up to the university level for all Malaysian children.

The quality of our education system also needs to be upgraded. This will be the best thing for Malaysians as the biggest expense for parents is educating their children.

Education has become a money-making machine for many schools of higher learning. We must vote for Pakatan Rakyat and give them a chance to prove themselves.

Jeremy Ng: Free education is definitely possible if we can minimise all the government leakages and abuses.

Equally vital is the standard of education. This must start with having school administrators and teachers who are qualified to do their job. There must be no politicking in education under the guise of protecting race or religion.

Private institutions of higher learning are important, but there should be some form of control over the excessive fees they are charging.

Our education policies have been bastardised for too long by BN.

Shanandoah: Provide education that parents want for their children. They know what's best for their children. The government only seems to know what is good for Malay children so that they can find employment with the government.

National schools cannot provide the kind of education that the private sector needs. At one time, Malaysians could easily go abroad to seek employment or further their education.

But that has now been effectively curbed by the kind of education they are getting at home. So what revamp we are talking about?

Headhunter: BTN is spending RM500 million a year? You have got to be kidding!

The auditor-general must do due diligence to find out how so much money could be spent - all for the sake of brainwashing civil servants into racists.

I see another corruption scandal in the making.

Altantuya poser: 'She got visa for France in KL'

Up2U: Even the French Embassy can be of assistance if the application is from our top officials, let alone having a passport with the name of ‘Amina Abdullah'. I wonder whether the passport is a Malaysian one?

Anonymous #94574956: Just check with the French immigration authorities to verify whether Altantuya used a Malaysian passport to enter France.

ABU Member: With the right connections you can get anything that you want. Altantuya Shaariibuu was lucky to have this kind of privilege of obtaining a visa to France. Unfortunately, the very same connections resulted in her murder.

BernieBaby: Normally, you can apply for a foreign country visa if you are a resident in the country where the application is made, or by special recommendation.

Home country rules may not apply but you can be questioned by your country's immigration upon renewal of your passport.

I have been a resident of a few countries and applied for visas to others in those countries. Either someone in France gave Altantuya the recommendation or someone very powerful had done this locally in Malaysia.

Smartvoters: The investigators in France should check the French immigration records of entry into France of Altantuya, Abdul Razak Baginda and Najib Razak.

If the record shows all three had entered and stayed in France during the same period, then we are inching a little closer to the truth.

Next, interrogate the two convicted Malaysian police officers as to who ordered them to kill Altantuya.

Just use the hard method of interrogation on them like waterboarding, hanging them upside down and sleep deprivation. They will surely talk and reveal the whole truth.

Next, also interrogate the Malaysian immigration official who deleted or removed the records of Altantuya entering Malaysia as to who directed him to such a thing.

Use the same methods of interrogation to get him speak and reveal the truth. There are far too many unanswered but very fundamental questions in this case.

We must all go all out to get these answers.

Kairos: What we read about the Altantuya murder so far sounds like a Hollywood movie of high intrigue with twists and turns at every corner. The only difference is that in movies, we know who the killers are and the motive is firmly established.

Here in this case, no thanks to high-level intervention and obstruction by the highest authorities of the land, the truth is constantly elusive.

But Malaysians and Altantuya's dad must be strong and not give up on finding the truth. Almighty God will hold us to account for the grisly murder of an innocent girl.
