According to a Utusan Malaysia report today, Khalid’s application was based on his MyKad address - Lot 173, Batu 22, Kampung Pasir Teruntong, Bukit Rotan.
At a 15-minute public hearing held at the Sabak Bernam district office yesterday, Selangor EC chief Dzulkifli Ab Rahman threw out the objections by several local voters, including PKR members, who felt that Khalid had other motives for his move.
Khalid was initially registered as a voter in the parliamentary constituency of Petaling Jaya Selatan, before being moved to the Lembah Pantai parliamentary constituency under a controversial
correction exercise
by the EC.
Lembah Pantai falls within the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, where there are no state seats.
If he remains registered there, he would not be able to contest in Selangor in the next general election, as the law stipulates that only residents can contest in the state.
The change of voting constituency will not affect his prospects of contesting any parliamentary seat so long as he resides in the country.
Khalid is the MP for Bandar Tun Razak and the state assembly representative for Ijok in Selangor, which falls within the Kuala Selangor parliamentary constituency.
