'EC, just do your job. That's all we ask'

YOURSAY 'The EC's job is to see that every election is fair and clean. It is not your job to speculate on anything outside your job scope.'

Unexpected situations may occur in GE13, says EC

your say Doc: Election Commission deputy chief Wan Ahmad Wan Omar, what in hell do you mean "unexpected situations may occur in GE13"?

Do you mean that the EC will have to work even harder to do what they do best; rig the general election to ensure a resounding BN victory?

Quigonbond: One misstep after another. If I were a BN supporter, I'd balk each time EC attempts a poorly constructed and not-so-veiled mud slug against the opposition parties.

Saying there is a "mistrust doctrine" is as good as pre-empting any eventual accusation that the elections are rigged.

One has to wonder if the EC is on the take from some factions in BN to ensure that BN barely wins the elections and PM Najib Razak is ejected.

In their machinations, they may simply overestimate their chances and let Pakatan Rakyat win.

Multi Racial: If there is a lack of trust in the EC, Wan Ahmad should know who is to be blamed. The question is what are they doing about it to win back the trust?

Milosevic: Something is afoot, with so many from the ruling bloc warning the opposition to accept the election results were it to lose.

In most societies, the losing side accepts the election results if the process is seen as fair and clean. There is usually a legitimate case when regimes are accused of stealing the election.

Oppositionists in pseudo-democracies only ask for basic democratic norms to operate. It is no secret that the BN, particularly Umno, has never instituted an open, fair electoral process.

A strong entitlement mentality exists to plunder and bully. Shameful gerrymandering and the blatant use of public resources for partisan purposes is the modus operandi. Fake electoral rolls and the treasonous conversion of foreigners to BN voters is par for the course.

BN is not shy of using any means, including even more massive cheating this time, to secure the elections, which they are forced to conduct. These statements by the bloc are an early warning to us to accept electoral theft.

Caripasal: A total of 273,819 early voters? That is roughly 1,200 early voters per parliamentary seat. And of course many of these voters will cast their votes again in the 'real election' using a different IC.

Disgusted: What I can't understand is why spouses of the armed forces and police are considered as postal voters. Are they on active duty in places far from voting centres?

All army barracks and police quarters are within the city, towns or districts where voting centres are available.

It looks like they are the fixed deposit for BN as they may not necessarily vote themselves but the head of the barracks or police quarters may assign someone to do it as testified by a few retirees.

Besides what is there to prevent them from being double registered under the civilian register and voting twice - once as postal voter where indelible ink will not be used and then again at voting centres for general public.

These people should not be considered as postal voters to prevent such cheating.

Fairnessforall: Postal votes are the biggest form of cheating. Army personnel are forced to vote for BN as their leaders stand over their head. There should be opposition representatives when the army does their postal votes to ensure that it is secret.

DontPlayGod: The EC is giving an early warning on behalf of Umno to scare the voters. Remember, the EC is helping Umno to win, or else how can the illegal voters registration happen?

Anonymous #43051382: What ‘mistrust doctrine'? The EC's job is to see that every election is fair and clean. It is not your job to speculate on anything outside your job scope.

iloveBN: How can the EC claim to have any credibility when the developments in the ongoing Sabah RCI (royal commission of inquiry) suggests otherwise. The EC deputy chief behaves and speaks like he does not know what is going on in the RCI.

Heavywater: No, this is a warning to us that by hook or crook, BN will win. Whatever it takes, EC will make sure that is the results.

This statement from Wan Ahmad is to overcome what we are all expecting - that Pakatan will win and he is saying, "No way, not on my watch".

So we must double our efforts. All should come out to vote, it is the only way to overcome the cheating.

Cogito Ergo Sum: It is amazing, despite all that has been reported in the alternate media, this man says expect "unexpected situation" to occur.

Well, I hope the unexpected does take place, that is Pakatan, against all odds, turns the tables on BN and wins.

Anonymous #67264380: Can EC clarify how my daughter has been registered as a voter when she has never registered before and has been overseas for the past five years, occasionally returning to visit me.

Lover Boy: Wan Ahmad, you are right in pointing that there is this mistrust doctrine towards the EC.

Even before the Sabah RCI, the issue of phantom voters was a big problem that prompted Bersih to make recommendations in cleaning up the electoral rolls. Tell Malaysians how many of the recommendations suggested by Bersih has been adopted? None.

Just look at your appointment of the Federation of Chinese Associations of Sabah (FCAS) as election observers? What do you want them to observe when they have made it amply clear that the are BN supporters.

This is going to be a dirty election and it would be a miracle if the opposition can win, and if they do win, that I suppose is the "unexpected situation" that will occur.

Need I say more with what was revealed about illegal immigrants given blue IC to vote for BN, and you still wonder why you are accused of being a bias body?

Kanasai: EC, do your job. That is all Malaysians are asking.
