Two police commandos were killed today when a mortar shell hit Kampung Tanduo in Lahad Datu, which has been turned into a fortress by a group of armed Filipino intruders.

They were patrolling at one of the posts around the village when the mortar bomb exploded.

reporter who was at Felda Sahabat 17 settlement in the area, said the bodies of the two security force personnel were retrieved by the police and shoved into a police truck.
It is learnt that the bodies would be flown to Lahad Datu hospital.
"So far, the police have given no confirmation. We only saw the bodies, in green boots, being taken into the police truck," the reporter explained.
She said at 2pm, members of the media covering the standoff were also ordered by the security forces to leave the Felda settlement as the sounds of gunfire were still heard in the area.
Meanwhile, two soldiers, who were injured in a gunfire at the village earlier, were airlifted to Lahad Datu Hospital.
The army helicopter carrying the two soldiers arrived at the hospital about 1.50pm.
One of them was wheeled into the emergency ward on a stretcher, while the other on a wheelchair.
Their camouflage uniforms were stained with blood.
