PKR vice-president N Surendran has called for former Court of Appeal judge Mohd Noor Abdullah to be sacked from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) Complaints Committee for making a racist statement yesterday.

NONE Surendran ( left ), the newly-elected MP for Padang Serai, said Mohd Noor was unfit to hold a position of public trust following his statement yesterday.

“The BN government must immediately sack Mohd Noor Abdullah from this position of public trust. Mohd Noor’s statement makes him totally unfit to hold any position of public trust,” he said.

Surendran said Mohd Noor’s statement must be investigated under Section 505 of the Penal Code for causing “public mischief”.

“The Election Commission must also speak up and condemn the repeated threats issued to the Chinese community simply for exercising their democratic right to vote for a party of their choice,” he said.

NONE Surendran said Mohd Noor’s statement was consistent with similar “racist and inaccurate” statements made by Malay daily Utusan Malaysia , which front-paged a report titled ‘ Apa Lagi Cina Mahu? ’ (What more do the Chinese want?) last week.

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak defended Utusan ’s inflammatory editorial, and Surendran said Najib's and Umno’s “hidden hands” could be seen behind Mohd Noor’s statement.

Speaking at a forum yesterday, Mohd Noor said the Chinese community could face a “backlash” from the Malay community for triying to seize political power from the Malays.

NONE Meanwhile, Surendran's call was backed up by Kedah Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang ( left ), who in a statement said that MACC should review Mohd Noor's position in their complaints committee.

"As a current member of the MACC complaints committee, Mohd Noor Abdullah should refrain from making any statement that would cause uneasiness among Malaysians," he said.

He stressed that contrary to the perception created by Mohd Noor, not all Chinese voters voted for the opposition and not all Malay voters voted for BN in last Sunday's election.

"Thus, it is grossly misleading for him to create a false perception that all Malaysian Chinese had betrayed the Malay community," he added.
