The Malaysian National Film Development Corporation (Finas) should allow public screening of the ‘ Tanda Putera ’ movie, said Communications and Multimedia Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek.

He said with the screening of the film on statehood, directed by Shuhaimi Baba, the people would be able to evaluate the message it contained.

NONE “It is time the film ‘ Tanda Putera ’ is screened for the masses,” he said in his Facebook page, today.

The film, produced by Pesona Pictures Sdn Bhd in cooperation with Finas, is about Malaysia’s second prime minister Abdul Razak Hussein and his deputy Dr Ismail Abdul Rahman restoring peace in the country after the May 13, 1969 riots.

The RM4-million film which was produced in 2011 and approved for screening by the Film Censorship Board with the certificate PG13, was to have been screened from Nov 15 last year.

However, the cabinet decided to postpone its screening allegedly due to the presence of unsuitable scenes and fearing it could cause conflict in society.

Rusdi Ramli plays the leading role of Abdul Razak, Zizan Nin is Dr Ismail while Faezah Elai plays the role of Abdul Razak’s wife Rahah Mohamad Noah.
