MCA Youth has no right to comment on the Chinese education system in the country as they no longer represent the Chinese majority, said a coalition of Muslim pressure groups today.

NONE Gabungan NGO Melayu-Islam said MCA became a defunct party as a result of the mass walk-out by Chinese voters in GE13.

“Out of the 37 seats entrusted to them by the BN coalition, MCA only managed to contribute  four seats,” Young Malaysian Journalists Club president Dzulkarnain Taib ( right ) said in a press statement today on behalf of the coalition.

“If it weren’t for the courtesy votes by the Malays, the four MCA representatives of Dewan Rakyat – including Wee (Ka Siong)’s seat in Air Itam – will not be given the title of ‘Yang Berhormat’,” he added.

He also claimed that in the eyes of the Chinese voters, MCA exists in name only as it has lost its locus standi to discuss matters pertaining to the race, what more issues involving vernacular schools.

Yesterday, MCA Youth chief Wee Ka Siong had reportedly threatened to lodge a police report against the Muslim Consumers Association for seditious remarks .

This followed the call by them on behalf of Gabungan NGO Melayu-Islam, a coalition of 130 NGOs, for the government to close down all vernacular schools.

Debate challenge

mca youth agm 201012 wee ka siong 03 Wee ( left ) warned them that the federal constitution provided for mother-tongue education under Article 152, which allows for the teaching and learning of other languages without any prohibition.

Contradicting this, Dzulkarnain today said that the “hundreds of millions that the government has channeled towards vernacular schools all this while was done merely as a courtesy, and not because it is necessitated in the constitution.”

He said Gabungan NGO Melayu-Islam is challenging Wee and the MCA Youth education bureau to debate the matter, so that it may “educate” the latter on the strength of the federal constitution.

“Details on the organising of the debate will be announced through the media next week and an invitation will be sent to them,” the statement reads.

In response, Wee, today tweeted that MCA and MCA Youth are ready to face any NGOs calling for the abolition of Chinese vernacular schools in a debate.
