The new commission set up by the Selangor state government to probe electoral fraud was deemed as a “waste of money and time” by newly-elected Selangor opposition leader Mohd Shamsudin Lias.

NONE Shamsudin ( right ) said the existing system is enough to solve the electoral dispute, and there is no need for setting up a new commission to look into that.

“It’s definitely a waste of time (and money),” he said, adding that the opposition will voice out its opinion in the coming sitting which begins on July 1.

“It’s purely politics, (intended to) undermine BN,” said the Sungai Burong state assemblyperson.

If BN were to rule the state, it would make developments a priority rather than politicking, he noted.

It was reported that Selangor BN deputy chairperson Noh Omar has announced Shamsudin as the new opposition leader, and Jeram assemblyperson Amiruddin Setro as deputy opposition leader.

'The gov't cannot accept dirty polls'

“The Selangor Pakatan government has done this on the principle that it should investigate the matter as it cannot ignore electoral frauds, nor accept dirty polls,” said state exco member Teng Chang Khim, adding that lots of electoral fraud had allegedly took place in the state.

NONE The Selangor exco line-up would be discussing the details - such as the terms of reference and the commission members - and is to be finalised soon, said Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad ( left ), who heads the commission secretariat.

The commission would be formed by prominent judges and leaders irregardless of their political affiliations, he added when met at the sweraring-in ceremony today.

He noted that the investigation done by the commission will not infringe upon the process of the election petitions, and would not be presented to the Election Court as evidence.

"Once the investigation concludes, the suggestions would be submitted to the state authorities.

"We may publicise (the report). This will become documentation, let the public look at what had happened in the 13th general election," he said.

Concern about MB’s health

Selangor Mentri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim’s health has raised concern today as he almost passed out at the swearing in ceremony today due to low blood glucose levels.

NONE Rumour spread that Khalid ( right ) wasn’t well today and was spotted “falling asleep” through camera lenses during the ceremony.

Later, he seemed to fell into a deep sleep as soon as he sat down for the group photo session with all the assemblypersons, and his companion had to rouse him up so  the photographers could take pictures of him with his eyes open.

The same things happened at the press conference, where he seemed to be sinking into a deep sleep once he sat down and again when he started to speak to the media.

The situation caused the media personnel to be concerned about his health, and later his secretary had to pull him out during the middle of the press conference.

The secretary said Khalid suffered from low blood glucose levels today and needed to end the press conference abruptly.
