The Registrar of Societies said it has yet to receive an official letter from the DAP regarding the party's intentions to hold a re-election for its central executive committee (CEC) on Sept 29.

“At this moment, DAP has only spoken (about it) to the media,” ROS director general Abdul Rahman Othman was quoted saying in the New Straits Times .

He added that as such, he cannot comment if the decision to only involve the same candidates who contested in the nullified CEC polls is in breach of the party constitution.

ROS in a letter on July 30 instructed the DAP to hold a new CEC election, as it was not satisfied with the party's explanation over a 'technical glitch' that altered the previous polls results.

The said glitch saw initially elected DAP grassroots leader Vincent Wu replaced by now Bukit Bendera MP Zairil Khir Johari.

DAP has been at loggerheads with the ROS over the matter, and complained that the latter has not furnished any provision in the Society's Act to demand the party a re-election,

The party said it finally decided to comply with the request to avoid giving the authorities any cause to deregister the party.
