The push by several MCA leaders for an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) to overturn the central committee's decision to lift Tee Siew Kong's three year suspension appears to have come to an unceremonious end.

MCA Youth chief Wee Ka Siong admitted today that the EGM has been "overtaken by events" and any letter issued now pertaining to it would be "null and void".

This is because the EGM request was submitted on Sept 9 and lapses after 30 days, which is on Oct 8.

However, any letter issued by the party members needs to be issued 21 days before the EGM date.

The only option is for party president Chua Soi Lek to exercise his powers to call for an EGM within seven days, but he has refused to do so, said Wee.

NONEThe MCA Youth chief admitted that he and 13 other CC members who pushed for the EGM have no other option but to wait for the party elections, now that the EGM period is set to lapse.

Tee (right) was suspended for three years initially by the party's disciplinary committee for accepting a state executive councillor's position in Johor.

This went directly against Chua's pledge that MCA would not take up government positions if they performed worse in the elections compared to 2008.

However, the CC overturned the suspension on September 5 after stating that the appointment of Tee, the Pulai Sebatang state assemblyperson, was on the decision of the Sultan of Johor.

A total of 14 CC members, led by deputy president Liow Tiong Lai and Wee himself, had called for the EGM on September 9, seeking for the suspension to be re-instated.
