After Mukhriz's loss, apa lagi bapak mahu?

YOURSAY 'Without his father, Mukhriz is nothing. He would not be the MB of Kedah if his father did not provide him with the crutches.'

Umno polls show that what goes around comes around

your say, YoursayMulti Racial: Mukhriz Mahathir got 54,020 votes out of 146,500 which represent 36.9% and he got 90 out of 191 which represents 47.2%. In both cases, it is well below 50% and in spite of this, there is still someone are still painting Mukhriz as a success and his father Dr Mahathir Mohamad' popularity has not diminished.

Ha ha ha, how pathetic. It is a disease known as denial which has spread across Umno supporters. The results show Dr M's influence in Umno has waned. The results show Mukhriz has to break out from his daddy's influence otherwise he will be dragged down.

The results show former PM Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's supporters are big winners indicating Umno members opted for moderation. This is clear when extremist like former Malacca CM Mohd Ali Rustam got kicked out high and dry.

Aries46: The rejection of 'mummy's boy' Mukhriz puzzles even the pessimists considering the relentless campaigning undertaken these last few years under various guises, by daddy and his right wing cohorts.

The general perception is that Mahathir's barrage of race-baiting rants and preferred patronage of racist groups and rabble rousers and his ouster of Abdullah and frequent criticism of Prime Minister Najib Razak's policies and administration, were all carefully calculated to accelerate Mukhriz's ascendancy to the highest echelon of his party in order to sustain his waning legacy.

What could have probably backfired on mamma's boy could be Najib's uncanny ability to beat the odds and his inherent political instinctive foresight that brokered a team-up with Abdullah. Nevertheless as Welsh has aptly cautioned, a wounded tiger is even more dangerous and Najib would do well to watch his back.

Bamboo: Mahathir's gerrymandering of parliamentary seats has now came back to destroy his son's Umno aspirations. No matter how cleverly men propose, God disposes.

Sirach: The waning influence of Mahathir is the best thing to come out of these polls. It is all the more gratifying to note that Pak Lah's esteem has soared, overshadowing Mahathir's. What goes around comes around. One hopes that the spectre of the rise of another Mahathir has been put to rest, permanently.

Watchtower: I think it is the hope of all Malaysians that this small change of moving away from the loudmouthed warlord will signal the country moving towards the middle path, where sound and right principles are the bases of running the country.

A prosperous country is good for everyone. Prosper the country in wealth and moral fabric. Down with corruption and marginalisation of the poor and those living in rural fringes of our country. Hidup Malaysia?

Headhunter: This is the opportunity for Najib to finish off Mahathir and his supporters and be his own man. He can do so by appointing his own loyalists to key positions and leave anyone who is remotely connected to the Mahathir camp in the dirt.

If he doesn't do it, he will be walking in the shadow of the old man again. Take this opportunity to revamp his cabinet and after that, it's time for him to take care of the country business again which he hasn't done since way back when. Time to walk his talk instead of empty rhetoric.

Toffeesturn: Mahathir's final battle looms; he has been bitten and torn by the dog he fed, he is bitter, his son has been rubbished, his enemies are all laughing, the boy he ridiculed now laughs each time he hears the names Mukhriz or Mahathir, even Shahrizat has deserted him realising that her future lies with Najib.

Khairy is looking more powerful than Hishammuddin, and Mukhriz is licking his wounds whilst Mahathir is badly maimed. In his fight to regain power one has to watch - he will go extremes, he will pick on the Chinese, and Najib will have to watch it, the battle is going to be bloody with only one winner - the opposition

PS: Toffeesturn's comment reminds me of the numerous National Geographic films documented of the animal kingdom, where the alpha male/female will eventually be edged out in a fight and left to waste.

The final scene usually shows the vultures circling above waiting to feed on the carcass. In a feature of the lion pride, the old, worn out lion king is outcaste, wasted and has little protection against its predators.

It finally dies and becomes part of the food chain. It's the same with humankind, especially with politicians.

Qingdao: Another incisive article by Bridget Welsh. Most revealing is the composition of supreme council affiliations where Abdullah's camp has 32%. Even though he suffered from sleep apnea (falling asleep during meetings), he has a more racially balanced demeanour with a good heart. Glad many voters saw that; perhaps there is still hope.

Quigonbond: The incumbents supposedly do not wear their religion on their sleeves. It's time to roll back all the controversy on religion, unilateral conversions etc. But a new danger awaits Malaysians.

Even without Dr M, we are back to Dr M days with draconian preventive detention, sedition charges and wanton abuse of other criminal legislations and regulators to pressure the opposition into compliance.

Ultimately, it is as if Malaysia has not moved past Dr M's era. Different people are in charge now, but the same corruption remains and it has a corrupting effect on the rest of the society.

Fourtan: The incumbents and the status quo remain. In short, the robbing continues. Just plain rotten. Malaysians, please opt for ABU (Anything But Umno).

Davesingh: Mahathir will strike back. He has a very vengeful and vindictive nature. He also holds many secrets about the guys in power now. Watch and see.

Sakit hati ku: The corpse of Mahathirism may be waiting to be buried, but the filthy stench remains. At least, until his blooming mouth stops to functioning.

Wg321: Without his father, Mukhriz is nothing. He would not be the MB of Kedah if his father did not provide him with the crutches.

Kairi Jamban: Mukhriz is a wimp - without his father I bet he probably would have received about none votes. Sympathy votes are pity votes, what a pity Mukhriz. You should have stayed in Kedah and be happy with being MB.

Anonymous #40538199: Now I think is wise for Mukhriz to ask, "Apa lagi bapa mau?"
