SG LIMAU The son of the late Sg Limau assemblyperson Azizan Abdul Razak has demanded an apology from Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin over his statement related to his dad’s diabetes condition.

NONEAzizan’s son Muhammad Rafi’ie said he represents the two families to voice out their sadness about Muhyiddin’s (left) comment.

Azizan had two wives, and their families have members in both BN and PAS. Rafi’ie is the fifth son from the first wife.

“His statement has touched our feelings deeply as we are still very sad and hurt over the death of a person we loved the most in the world,” said Rafi’ie, 32.

Hee was accompanied by PAS Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz Omar and Anak Bukit assemblyperson Amiruddin Hamzah.

“The tears of our families have not dried yet when we think about our father and we still miss him terribly,” said a visibly hurt Rafi’ie, who works in a private company.

He added that Muhyiddin should not drag his families’ problems into the political arena as “political capital” in Sg Limau.

He stressed that Muhyiddin’s hurtful statement had disrupted the so-called harmonious political ethics promoted by Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir.

In justifying the abolishment of sugar subsidy, the deputy prime minister had on Saturday referred to the double amputation the late former menteri besar went through as a result of diabetes.

"Because of this (consuming sugar), he is forced to go through the process where his legs had to be amputated," Muhyiddin had said.

Rafi’ie said the reduction of sugar subsidies is to reduce the government’s burden and has nothing to do with wanting to control diabetes.

In the coming Nov 4 Sungai Limau by-election, PAS’ Mohd Azam Samat, 37, a local boy with ulama ties, will face former university lecturer Ahmad Sohaimi Lazim, 52, of BN in a straight fight.

The seat fell vacant following Azizan’s death on Sept 26.

Azizan, the former PAS Kedah MB, had held the seat for five terms, since 1995.
