Umno-owned daily Utusan Malaysia in its report today has questioned the use of ‘Allah’ at a non-Islamic function at at a hotel gathering in Klang yesterday.

This follows the banning of the usage of ‘Allah’ by non-Muslims in Selangor by the Selangor Sultan.

NONE It reported that the closed-door event, attended by 200 people, had a backdrop stating ‘International Full Gospel fellowship Allah Satelit Nilai dan Satelit Puchong’.

The daily also reported that the notice of the event was different from what was stated on the backdrop. The daily also reported that between 1pm to 6pm yesterday, the event was filled with songs praising the religion and using ‘Allah’ in their lyrics.

It was reported that Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah had decreed last month that people from other faiths than Islam are not allowed to use ‘Allah’ and they should abide by this restrictions as stated under Section 9 of the Non-Muslim Enactment (Restriction in propagation among Muslims) Act 1988.

Meanwhile, the daily also reported that Mohamed Hafiz Mohamed Nordin, deputy president of a non-governmental organisation calling themselves as Gabungan Bela Hak Insan Pulau Pinang (Gabungan), has urged the government to replace Suhakam chairperson Hasmy Agam.

NONE This follows Hasmy’s ( right ) urging the government to ratify six international conventions on human rights including the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which the group claim would lead to apostasy.

“We felt that if this is implemented it would require amendment to or reviewing of existing laws. The question is whether Hasmy is not concerned over all this. Does he want to see the country be developed by 2020 but its people continue to practice deviant sex like lesbian and gay?

“Does he want to see the Islamic and syariah law being supervised by the United Nations,” he asked in a press conference in Penang yesterday in commenting on Hasmy’s urging Malaysia to ratify the international conventions.
