YOURSAY ‘Utusan wants to foster uncertainty and paranoia to allow Umno to further repress the people.'

Utusan: M'kini a feckless 'parking operator'

Ferdtan: We should thank Utusan Malaysia for giving free publicity to its readers on the existence of Malaysiakini . You can be sure more Malay readers who are its main customers at least out of curiosity will become Malaysiakini’s readers.

However, to be serious I believe something is in the air. We hope not. Utusan will not waste its time hitting out at the popular website for no reason at all.

Something ominous is in the pipeline. Malaysiakini has to be careful, including its commentators.

Could it be a pressure (a cue?) for Umno leaders/government agencies to move against Malaysiakini before the website is ready to take on more challenges after its imminent relocation to its new office building?

Possibly this is the beginning in ‘character assassinating’ the news portal so that the enforcement officials can move in.

Malaysiakini must get ready to pre-empt any wicked intention. Indeed, Malaysiakini , you have now been declared a threat to national security.

Onyourtoes: Ferdtan, I share your observation. It looks like Utusan is unhappy not just with Malaysiakini , but also with the comments posted by its readers.

Utusan , we want to be fair to you. So please write to us what exactly you are unhappy about. It is useless for you to criticise in general terms - accusing Malaysiakini as irresponsible, of indulging in Stone Age journalism, practising the law of jungle and only publish news that are against BN, et cetera.

Responsible journalism is to publish the truth, even though it may be controversial or hurtful to some. So tell us specifically which news and which comment published by Malaysiakini is not true. I would like to know as I do not want Malaysiakini to slander and lie too.

Malaysiakini has taken the trouble to publish Utusan’s piece in full. So what does that tell us about Malaysiakini and Utusan ?

Milosevic: The fascist onslaught continues, led by Utusan . Ferdtan is correct to suspect that the government would like to act against Malaysiakini .

Studies show that a self-seeking political class, long in power will not give up power easily. Propaganda, lies, cheating and coercion come naturally to these fascist types. Their tactics involve infantilising, polarising, and ‘membodohkan’ (dumbing down) society, even if it causes national regression.

Deeply anti-national, the rulers and their appendages want to force a primitive state of mind in the country. Under the delusion of elevating race, religion and nation, Utusan wants to foster uncertainty and paranoia to allow Umno to further repress the people.

Rationality, open argument and basic facts are dangerous. Using reverse psychology, Utusan - as it is being manipulative, inflammatory and dishonest - will instead point the finger at Malaysiakini .

This is Fascism 101. Utusan understands it needs to suppress and distort speech to bolster this anti-Malaysia, self-seeking regime.

Patriot1: If we are a democratic nation, citizens are free to support the government and likewise criticise the government if they feel it is justified.

This is the hallmark of a matured democracy. No person of a sound mind would criticise the government for the sake of doing so and Malaysiakini is one of the few channels available for the people to express their grievances and looking at the number of comments posted, the government certainly have a lot of soul searching to do.

As far as Utusan is concerned, the government can do no wrong and it has been proven time and again they will manufacture stories just to put any opposition in the bad light and even their top dog has said that it's okay to spin stories in support for the government.

Maybe Utusan should conduct a poll to see what's the public opinion regarding them?

Moontime: The above article is actually true... for Utusan . Just replace the name Malaysiakini with Utusan and you get the editor ranting at its own newspaper. Hilarious.

Utusan editor Zulkiflee forgot that his newspaper has been practising gutter journalism the moment Umno owned it. Character assassination, slander, lies and other filth have and always will be the trademark of Utusan . The evidence?

Just count how many libel suits the company has lost due to its irresponsible journalism - all in the name of the patriotic duty to protect and serve its political master.

Enough is enough, Utusan . Continue in this path and we will definitely celebrate your demise. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

FellowMalaysian: By allowing readers to air their views unadulterated, Malaysiakini is indeed adhering to the sanguine principles and tenets of open journalism and press freedom.

The freedom and liberty of readers to publish their thoughts and views in an unfettered and unrestrained manner is a basic right of a citizen in a democratic country.

Readers who post their views and comments are subject to 'self-regulatory' checks and control measures in the content of their postings knowing that their views should not run in contrary with the country's constitutional laws.

Zulklifee and Utusan's opinions are archaic and sounds like they belong to the schools of thoughts during the Mahathirism era, i.e. before the advent of Internet where no one is given an opportunity to vent opinions against government policies.

Utusan just like many of the mainstream media publications, practices abject censorship in its news content just to please its Umno bosses. The editors and regulators of Utusan are so obsequious to their employers that it is rare to come across any opposing voices or opinions in their publications.

But we are no better off today than we were before as we are still ranked a miserable 147th place out of 180 countries under the World Press Freedom Index this year.

It is hoped that the government and its authorities will come to their senses and realise that granting a wider freedom to the press and allowing a freer access to its publications will be a boon to the country's road to progress.

Fair Play: Malaysiakini , congratulations again. You landed yet another sucker punch against Utusan - this time much bigger.

No doubt, they have read all the 'praises' heaped upon them by your paid subscribers. Their frustration is that they could not counter these paid subscribers.

And yes, they are a responsible 'parking operator' but only exclusive to Umno cybertroopers who have a free license to run amok.

Geronimo: Well, at least Malaysiakini have grown in status - from Stone Age to a modern-day parking operator.

Apa lagi Utusan mahu?
