Dr M says Najib lacks teeth to bite

Swipenter: This is shadow play par excellence by former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

 

His successor, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, had the biggest mandate in the history of the nation and but he made four mistakes:

 

1) Enriching his own family members and not sharing the spoils of office evenly amongst Umno Baru warlords.

 

2) Got sleepy on the job and enjoyed his office too much, forgetting to deliver his promises to the rakyat.

 

3) Let the right-wing Umno Baru warlords threatened the minorities once too often.

 

4) Went against Mahathir's wishes that delivered the fatal blow to his political life.

 

Then Najib Razak was the next chosen one as president of Umno Baru. Najib is very much aware of what can happen to him if he goes against the kingmaker.

 

Now Mahathir is talking why Najib is not capable of tackling racial and religious extremism because he does not have a strong mandate.

 

Whoever is the kingmaker he is using reverse psychology on us. Why?

 

1) Najib cannot act because he does not have a strong mandate from his own party, especially the hawks. The hawks will remove him like they did to Abdullah. Najib is very aware of this.

 

2) Religio-racist and fascist Malay groups like Perkasa and Isma are babies of right-wing Umnoputras created to do their dirty job of stirring racial and religious tensions to whip up ‘Malay; nationalism and to frighten the non-Malays into submission. Divide and rule tactic all over again.

 

3) Najib maybe given permission to act and some unlucky ones maybe sacrificed as scapegoats for the greater good of Umno Baru-BN hoping that voters would flock back to them to give them a strong mandate once again.

 

4) If nothing works, they might unleash their oft-repeated threat of another "May 13" onto the country and grab absolute power once again. History repeats itself once again in Bolehland.

 

Quigonbond: This is utter bunkum from Mahathir. In a healthy democracy, if you have more than 51% seats in the Parliament, you have a majority, and that's good enough to do your job.

 

What Dr M is really saying is, Najib does not dare the make the right decisions because he, just like other Umno leaders before him, lack principles and will sacrifice anything to stay in power.

 

To make it worse, he pretends he cares, pretends he is putting "correctness" before "popularity", but he can't even spin that right and anyone with a relatively keen sense of critical thinking can see through his scam.

 

Put someone there who only cares to do the best of the country, who does not want to, or need to be in power for himself or for his party in perpetuity, and see the kind of good that he can immediately bring to Malaysia.

 

Hplooi: One-third Pakatan Rakyat MPs to join BN? It will be like a giant Ponzi scheme when too many people try to buy in.

 

The early birds who bought in and cash out will be the winner. But the ultimate winner will be the organiser of the Ponzi scheme who run away with the funds.

 

So joining Pakatan without addressing the structural failure will still lead to a breakdown of the system. That is the beauty of Mahathir's good-cop/bad-cop routine.

 

Liberalism is to be blamed. Give BN a stronger majority and all will be solved. The Cantonese aphorism is most appropriate - "He is God and Devil as one".

 

Go figure (the English translation do not really do justice to this popular and folklorist aphorism).

 

Oriole: Mahathir is a rabble-rouser and a mischief-maker. He is responsible for the rise of weak-minded men who are now leading these extremist groups. Now he's playing mediator and peacemaker for Najib. What a hypocrite.

 

But there is quite a history of leaders for Malaysia - from Tunku Abdul Rahman who was the happiest PM, to the rabble-rouser bully and now a non-entity looking for the approval of bullies. The country's leaders are a reflection of Malaysia's declining fortunes.

 

Multi Racial: Mahathir as usual put the blame on the voters for Najib’s weak leadership. BN won the GE13 by winning a majority of the parliamentary seats. BN nominated Najib to be their leader and prime minister.

 

If Najib is weak or incompetent, then the blame should go back to BN. Why are they not supporting the leader they have nominated? If they are not supporting him, then they might as well pass a vote of no confidence and vote another leader to be the PM.

Regardless, whoever is the PM, it is his duty and responsibility to make sure every citizen is safe and there will be peace and harmony. If anyone attempted to cause disharmony, it is the duty of the PM and his cabinet to act against the person.

 

If Najib is unable to do the job, then nominate someone else who can. Stop blaming the voters. And stop treating Malaysians as if they are idiots.

 

Dr Suresh Kumar: How ironic, I almost fell off my perch.

 

Mahathir being the patron of Perkasa, whose leader once asked a certain group of Malaysians to store up food supplies, a thinly veiled threat, reminiscent of events of May 1969 against those who were fighting for their legitimate rights as provided for under the supreme law of the country, the Federal Constitution, neither was he charged for sedition nor chastised by Mahathir.

 

In fact, Perkasa is still spewing venom detrimental to the harmony and stability of the country and never once did I hear Mahathir reprimanding them. Why this sudden concern and criticism against Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma)?

 

To me, Isma is nothing but a small fry compared to Perkasa. Perkasa is what Mahathir should be stopping right in their track. Do these politicians think that Malaysians are still wet behind the ears?

 

Armageddon: Indeed, one of the culprits that loves creating racial tension is Perkasa. And if Najib chose to take stern action against Perkasa, I am very certain, the opposition will support him 100%.

 

But he did not. BN instead gave Perkasa funds to do what ever they are doing now.

Turvy: Read carefully everything Mahathir has said and then imagine it being said by a stand-up comedian. They are one-liners of such hilarity.

 

"Opposition is good and must be supported unless they oppose the government." "Sarawak is a rich state because it has oil. So the oil subsidy must go to Kedah."
