To prove that Cadbury chocolates are halal as certified by the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim), its officials are willing to hold a demonstration by consuming the chocolates.

Jakim senior director for Halal Hub Mohd Amri Abdullah ( right ) told Astro Awani that the department has no qualms in proving that Cadbury chocolates can be consumed by Muslims.  

He explained that the process of providing the halal status is done according to stipulated procedures and standards.

"As mentioned before, the status of Cadbury has been decided as halal. If asked to eat the chocolates, we are convinced that what is given halal status is completely halal.

"But if consumers have reservations or doubts which are overboard, then it is best to leave it," he was quoted as saying.

Explaining the chemical testing done, Mohd Amri also denied that the decision by Jakim to classify the chocolates as halal was a U-turn as claimed by certain quarters.

After causing a furore by announcing that two Cadbury chocolate products have been found tainted with porcine DNA, the authorities later changed their stand .

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom said a new test from the same batch of samples showed no trace of the earlier said porcine (pig) DNA.

The products involved in the tests are Cadbury Dairy Milk Hazelnut and Cadbury Dairy Milk Roast Almond.    

"The previous results, which were conveyed to the Health Ministry recently, may have been contaminated," Jamil had said.

He said the contamination may have occurred because the samples were not taken directly from the Cadbury's factory.

The earlier result had unleashed a torrent of anger among Muslims against the well-established chocolate manufacturer.
