Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has denied holding a secret meeting with embattled Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

He was responding to reports that the two held a private discussion following a breaking of fast function at Bukit Jelutong last night.

As for the function itself, the prime minister dismissed the existence of an ulterior political agenda.

"A face to face (meeting)?... There was none," he said during a press conference this evening.

"He (Khalid) respects me as the leader of the federal government and I respect him as the leader of the state government.

"I never asked him to join Umno," he said, inviting laughter from the press and senior Umno leaders.

Earlier, Khalid's press secretary Arfa'eza Abdul Aziz also denied that a secret meeting took place.

She said the menteri besar received an invitation to attend the event because it was held in Selangor.

"It was a normal buka puasa function atttended by other state officials including the Selangor mufti and there was no secret meeting," she told Malaysiakini .

She was responding to a pro-Umno website which claimed that Najib and Khalid met in a room at the Tengku Ampuan Jemaah mosque in Bukit Jelutong.

Najib 'serious' over Bung rebuke

Meanwhile, turning his attention to Umno’s own supreme council member Bung Moktar Radin, Najib said he was serious when he openly reprimand the former over the ill-received tweet directed at Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.

He said Bung ( right ), who is also Kinabatangan MP, should not make any further statements which contradict the party’s struggles and principles.

The Umno president pointed out that any opinions expressed by party members or BN MPs could be seen to reflect on Umno and its supreme council.

“That is why I decided to reprimand him (Bung). He has apologised and retracted the statement.

“Bung knows our stand. That means when making a statement, it must not touch or contradit with the party’s principles and struggles.

“We have openly reprimanded him. This is a serious reprimand” Najib said.

Bung grabbed international headline and courted the ire of Malaysians and the global community when he tweeted ‘Long live Hitler’ following Germany’s 7-1 victory over host nation Brazil in the World Cup semi finals on Wednesday morning.

While initially unapologetic, he later issued an apology following a public rebuke by Najib.
