YOURSAY ‘He’s guilty of same offence as Adam, who was sentenced to one-year's jail.’

Noh: BN will rise if ruler's MB choice disputed

Tholu: Selangor BN chief Noh Omar, you are such a hypocrite to the extent of pulling wool over the eyes of the Selangor sultan.

Did BN, during Dr Mahathir Mohamad's premiership, extend an olive branch to the Malay rulers when it feverishly pressured them in the early 1990s to agree to the proposed changes to the constitution that removed their legal immunity?

Didn't BN amend the Sedition Act then to allow public criticism of the rulers during the "constitutional crisis"? Wasn't the present Selangor sultan's father one of the rulers who was “challenged and disrespected” by BN?

Now, without any feelings of shame and guilt you say, "BN will rise when the monarchy is challenged and disrespected..." You are merely an opportunist who, together with your other BN goons, are merely trying to fish in troubled waters.

I don't think you are bothered whether or not the crisis is resolved soon. You are actually happy that this is happening in Selangor for opening up opportunities for BN to attempt a takeover of the state.

Kee Thuan Chye: In saying what he said, Noh Omar, who will be seen to be representing Umno's stand, is committing what might be said to be a form of treason - yes, treason against the Federal Constitution, on which our nation is founded.

The person who becomes the next Selangor MB should not be the sultan's choice but the people's choice. We are living in a parliamentary democracy with a constitutional monarchy.

By threatening to rise against anyone who should oppose the sultan's choice of MB, Umno, through Noh Omar, is subverting the very foundation of our nation.

Disgusted: Noh said: "Whoever is appointed, we are still the opposition, we accept his (sultan’s) decision and we will do our work as opposition."

What he means is that whoever is appointed will be a BN-friendly opposition MB who will work for the interest of Umno-BN and undermine the Pakatan Rakyat government and bring about the hatred and odium of the rakyat of Selangor against Pakatan, which will eventually gain the state for BN in next election, all because the rakyat will get fed up with Pakatan's rule and vote for BN in protest.

Mushiro: Noh, please do not insult the sultan with only 500 people who were brought to express love for the sultan.

Go ahead and bring Umno's 12 Adun (state representatives) to vote in the Dewan when the sitting starts.

Let the sultan decide within the Selangor constitution and let the majority party react within the same constitution. Everyone has to learn to abide by the law.

Victor Johan: Pakatan should stay the course as to what is enacted in the federal and the various state constitutions. No compromise, whatsoever.

Umno is certainly very threatened with the formidable strength of the Pakatan pact and will just use any institution to disrupt the people's on-going choice of support.

The Pakatan leadership should ensure that it defeats all and any endeavour of Umno. The Malaysian constitution is supreme. Period.

Tentarik: Noh, don't be too sure. The whole thing may blow up in your face. People in Selangor are not stupid. They are fully aware of the constitution.

The majority have so far remained silent. Those making a lot of noise are your lackeys. Who are 500 paid-for demonstrators compared with the total population of Selangor?

Think carefully, be rational, and don't forget that the sultan is just the constitutional ruler of Selangor. Everybody should respect and uphold the constitution.

Rick Teo: It now seems that defending the constitution is a crime. Since when did we change the constitution for the sultan to select whom he likes, without regard to having a majority in the state assembly?

Multi Racial: Noh Omar is an opportunist.  He is probably the last person who would want to defend the rulers.

As politicians, the primary role of lawmakers is to defend the constitution. At this moment, the constitution has been threatened. Lawmakers should combine forces to do what is right for the constitution.

Imagine if BN won and BN nominates Noh Omar and the sultan rejected him and calls BN to submit a few names and eventually appoints someone else. By then, I will wonder whether Noh Omar will still be demonstrating in support of the rulers.

Nobody is going against the sultan. They are saying what the sultan did is against the constitution.

If the sultan goes against the constitution that protects the rulers, don't you think, ultimately, it will be bad for the rulers? So, exactly are what Noh Omar and these people demonstrating against?

Peacemaker: Noh is threatening an uprising with the help of BN supporters. This is seditious because his threat brings the ‘elected government into disaffection’.

He is guilty of the same offence as the young student who was sentenced to 12 months’ jail. We are waiting for the police chief to arrest him.
