DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang has urged de facto law minister Nancy Shukri to clear the air in Parliament over her controversial remarks made last week.

He was referring to Nancy's parliamentary reply that no action was taken against Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali for threatening to burn Malay-language bibles because he meant to defend Islam.

"Nancy now claims that she had been wronged and misunderstood, that she was merely passing on the message by the Attorney-General's Chambers on Ibrahim.

"Malaysia does not need a 'ministerial' postman - who must be the most highly-paid postman in the country and the world - but a responsible minister who has the courage of her convictions and principles," he said.

As such, Lim said Nancy should make a ministerial statement in Parliament to rectify this matter.

Likewise, he said Nancy should also make a parliamentary statement to clarify another of her parliamentary response where she disclaimed responsibility for the government in the recent sedition crackdown.

"Nancy claimed that the Malaysian government practices and upholds the doctrine of separation of powers and as such the government does not interfere in the Attorney-General's Chambers’ affairs.

"Here, Nancy made the grave error about the doctrine of separation of powers, as the attorney-general is part of the executive and not the judiciary in the doctrine of separation of powers among the executive, the legislature and judiciary," he said.

Therefore, Lim said the prime minister must assume full responsibility for the attorney-general's decision.

"Nancy should avail herself of the opportunity of making  a ministerial statement in Parliament to rectify these two major errors she committed in Parliament last week," he said.

Lim said Parliament is entitled to an explanation whether the attorney-general is out of sync with the prime minister who has promised to repeal the Sedition Act.
