PKR Youth has slammed Umno Cheras division chief Syed Ali AlHabshee for his claim that PKR’s solidarity campaign for its de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim in the face of his Sodomy II appeal ridicules the judiciary.

PKR Youth deputy chief Fahmi Fadzil said criticisms of PKR's ‘ Rakyat Hakim Negara ’ (The People Are The Judge) campaign shows that Syed Ali is stuck in “ancient politics”.

“His statement shows he is stuck in ancient politics that does not question anyone.

“(It also shows) that he does not understand the Federal Constitution and existing laws,” Fahmi ( right ) said in a statement last night.

 

He was responding to Syed Ali's posting on the Umno division blog on Wednesday that called on the police to act against organisers of the campaign.

 

The Umno leader claimed that the PKR Youth's campaign "mocks the judiciary" and ought to be culled.

 

"No one can question the integrity of the judicial system in this country. Therefore everyone must abide by whatever judgment is made by the courts in Anwar Ibrahim's appeal," Syed Ali had written.

 

Fahmi said questioning existing systems is the “core of democracy” and is something that can safeguard the rakyat from oppression.

He also reminded that freedom of assembly and expression are enshrined in the constitution.

Anwar appeal on his Sodomy II conviction will be heard by the Federal Court on Oct 28.

This will be his final appeal, after the Court of Appeal overturned his acquittal by the High Court.
