PPP president M Kayveas today warned voters against believing sweet promises made by Pakatan Rakyat, saying that it was akin to expecting the prime minister's wife Rosmah Mansor to cook for them.

 

"Don't believe in the opposition.... if you just believe their promises that there will be no tax, no toll, no need to pay for petrol, then might as well don't work.

 

"The prime minister can come to your house, you can call Rosmah to cook for you, (Selangor Umno chief) Noh Omar can wash your car, and I can come water your plants," he told delegates at the opening of the Selangor PPP convention in Ampang today.

 

Noh ( right, with garland ) was present at the event as a guest of honour to officiate the convention.

 

Kavyeas said the rakyat must work hard on their own to improve their lives.

 

"If today the opposition, DAP, PKR and PAS win, it will be the same.

 

"Your Myvi (car) will not become a Mercedes. Your low cost house will not suddenly become a bungalow.

 

"We need to work on our own. You need to work to improve yourselves," he said.

 

'Carrying bags'

Kayveas used himself as an example, stating that he was from the estates and had a job carrying bags.

 

"But I decided to work hard and become a lawyer," he said.

 

"The government cannot come to your house and feed you. Don't listen to the opposition's stories.

 

'(They want) you not to do anything. Just wait for handouts like rice packets or sugar packets.

 

"But our country will go downhill, the country will be condemned if we listen to the opposition's stories," he said.

 

Kayveas also thanked the party for supporting his leadership since 1993 and urged continued unity among party members.

 

He added this unity should likewise be reflected in other BN component parties.

 

Kayveas explained that parties like MCA and MIC cannot criticise Umno for championing for the Malays while they continue to only champion the Chinese and Indian communities respectively.

 

"At every MIC assembly they say they champion Tamil schools, Hindu temples and only fight for the Indians.

 

"And when it comes to the MCA AGM, they say they fight for Chinese schools and the Chinese community.

 

"So when it comes to the Umno assembly, do you expect them to talk about the Chinese and Indians? Of course they will talk about the Malays," he said.
