Its elected representatives were still able to serve constituents without the funds, Opposition Leader Mohd Shamsudin Lias said.
"Since 2008 to this day, we were not given even a single cent of allocation, but we still serve the people," he told reporters when met outside the state legislative assembly today.
To a question whether BN assemblypersons receive allocations from the federal government, Shamsudin did not answer but instead pointed to the federal government’s welfare programmes in the state.
These include the BR1M cash aid and affordable housing schemes.
Previously, Selangor Menteri Besar Mohd Azmin Ali ( right ) had announced in his budget speech that beginning next year, the 12 BN assemblypersons in the state will each receive an allocation of RM200,000 a year.
He said this is for running the state’s Mesra Rakyat welfare programmes, to improve the services provided by the elected representatives, and to ensure compliance to democratic principles.
However, Shamsudin said the BN representatives deemed the allocation “ insulting ” and will be rejecting it, because it is less than the RM700,000 allocation that Pakatan representatives will be receiving.
Despite this, Azmin said the money will still be allocated to the BN representatives. He added that an additional RM500,000 is allocated for state-appointed coordinators in each constituency.
"It is the same as each constituency receiving RM700,000. Only in the areas which we lost to BN, their assemblyperson will manage RM200,000 and the (state) coordinator will be given RM500,000," he said.
