A purported amateur footage of an African man being beaten by locals and then arrested in Jalan Kuching, Kuala Lumpur has gone viral on Facebook .

According to the caption accompanying the video, the footage was allegdely taken at 1.30pm on Sunday.

Since its upload yesterday, one copy of the three-minute video circulating on Facebook has garnered over a thousand shares as well as 700 likes on the social media site.

One of the Facebook pages that featured the video, Xin wen bao bao kan , credited one David Soh for recording the video.

The video starts with a mob of about six local men seen assaulting a pink-shirted African man as they pushed him on by a roadside, in what looked like a main road in Kuala Lumpur, in broad daylight as traffic passes by.

The African was heard saying “You’re not police!” as he struggles to break free from the punches and kicks.

Wielding a stick, a man continuously hits the African while another kicks him as the African man is seen to be forced into the backseat of a white Perodua MyVi.

The African man then tries to break free and attempts to run away by running against traffic but is apprehended and assaulted again.

While one of the men chases and tries to capture him, a police officer is seen arriving at the scene on a motorcycle.

The officer then escorted the African to the roadside, arresting him as two other officers arrive at the scene.

The video ends with the mob explaining the situation to the police, with the handcuffed African sitting by the roadside.

Facebook user Kimrie Syahierah Vamps II commented on the video, claiming to have witnessed the incident herself.

“The African crashed a Malay kid’s car.

"The Malay kid tried to settle (the damages) in a good way. He received a punch from the African before being able to talk it over.

"Other motorists witnessed the incident and chased the African to the sidewalk and eventually beat him,” she posted.
