There was an outpouring of support for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak from Umno Youth as Khairy Jamaluddin and his men gave their boss rockstar-like treatment.

After a closed-door meeting at the party headquarters this afternoon, the Umno Youth chief and the movement's divisional leaders hoisted Najib onto their shoulders and chanted slogans of support.

Among the cries were " sokong tetap sokong " and even the opposition clarion call of " lawan tetap lawan ".

The men carried Najib while singing along to the song 'Inilah Barisan Kita '.

Najib who appeared red-faced and flustered from the attention did not utter a word during the celebration.

The Umno Youth group continued to chant while escorting Najib to his car.

Umno Youth's declaration of support for Najib follows similar moves by Wanita Umno and several state chapters of the dominant BN party.

KJ commits to PM

Khairy had, on two occasions as Umno Youth chief, urged Najib to respond to issues raised by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

At a press conference later, Khairy said Umno Youth today declared its univocal support for Najib.

"The Umno Youth under my leadership will stay committed and give undivided support to the party president and the party leadership in the efforts to strengthen every layer in the party," Khairy said.

According to an Umno Youth leader who did not want to be named, discussions among division leaders and Najib revolved around allegations over his involvement in the Altantuya Shariibuu murder and 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

Other issues were the implementation of the goods and services tax (GST), the new Airbus ACJ320 purchased for top government officials and Najib's claims that Mahathir was still keen on the "crooked bridge" project.
