Kit Siang: PM's FAQ will fuel even more rumours

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak would be naive to think that his Frequently Asked Questions ( FAQ ) list on his blog would quell queries on the motive behind the murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu, DAP parliamentary Leader Lim Kit Siang said today.

In a statement, Lim said Najib's FAQ would likely cause the opposite effect in that it would fuel more speculation as to why two police personnel were convicted for the murder without any motive on their part being established.

Lim ( photo ) said Najib's FAQ only claimed that the murder had been 'investigated, tried and concluded in the Federal Court' but it does not answer who ordered the murder and whether there was a conspiracy to avoid a probe on the motive.

"Both these questions are not academic but very live, relevant and pertinent questions affecting national and international confidence in the integrity and professionalism of national institutions and the rule of law in the country as well as the credibility and reputation of the prime minister.

"All right-thinking and patriotic Malaysians are of one mind - that the conviction of two former special commandos Azilah Hadri and Sirul Azhar Umar for the murder of Altantunya has left behind the biggest 'whodunnit' mystery in the nation’s history that being the poser 'who ordered Altantuya to be killed?" said Lim.

Justice for whom?

On Najib's claim that the judgement brought justice to everyone, Lim said it was wrong to make this claim as Altantuya and Sirul's family have cried foul over the verdict.

"In fact, the Federal Court judgement had not even brought justice to Najib himself which is why four months after the Federal Court judgement, he is still haunted and hounded by the issue to the extent that he had to do an unprecedented act, a prime minister resorting to an FAQ in his blog to clear his name.

"Unless a satisfactory answer is found, Najib must be psychologically prepared for Altantuya’s murder to dog him for the rest of his public life," said Lim.

However, Najib can remedy the situation by ordering a full probe on the murder's motive, said Lim.

Najib's FAQ on 13 issues, among others, said influential individuals with many resources are trying to resurrect the issue to implicate him .

The premier ( photo ) qualified this statement by claiming that his detractors should have raised this issue eight years ago and that it was unfair to commit resources to another investigation when the judicial process has been exhausted.

"I am not involved and do not know anything about it. The court has determined who was guilty of the murder. That should be the end of the story," he said.

"Despite the court’s lengthy deliberation and judgement, the ample time given to the appellant to have their case heard and judged, my sumpah laknat (religious oath), the repeated denials I have made, the public explanations provided by Razak Baginda, some people continue to question the issue and keep trying to implicate me.”

Ongoing battle

The FAQ by Najib came after ex-premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad raised the issue early last month in an ongoing battle between the current and ex-prime minister.

"Apart from (Prime Minister) Najib (Abdul Razak) dismissing the claims as 'rubbish', there was no investigation.

"This is a human life. It would be very cruel for Sirul to die for just following orders," Mahathir had said in a a blog posting.
